Just wanted to add I'm glad for your sake (The Driver) that your car was a Rev3.

Correct me if I'm wrong but i believe Rev3 onwards were fitted with Side Impact bars. This clearly took some of the impact and helped stop the door entering the cabin any further.

Glad your ok Mr :)

Im deeply sorry that is car got wrote off...............NOT

All im saying is that he was extremly lucky not to have hit another car or even worse a person.

If that lampost he hit was a kid how would he feel then, what would you all say to him then??????????

Sorry but he was driving like a knob head in wet greasy roads. If you want to find the limit of your car, heres a suggestion....................FIND IT ON A RACE TRACK AND NOT THE ROADS.

As for driving on bald tyres like someone said here, yes well done they would be crap in the wet, but would be great in the dry. But then that is still down to driving your car for the weather conditions

well said that man, what a way to make yourself look like a total idiot. Its not bad enough that Matt has had an accident, you have to come on here with your self centred opinions and kick him while he is down.

Great going mate, give yourself a pat on the back you must be very proud of yourself.

and as for bald tyres being great in the dry... who in their right mind thinks thats a good idea. I will tell you who, its people like you who have no common sense and clearly no regard for the feelings of others.

and as clearly an expert driver, as your able to pass judgment on others driving, when your ego causes your car to spin, we will always be able to come on here and laugh at you.

:thumleft:

I guess the FIA were wrong in banning slick tyres on the formula 1 cars then, due to them having more grip in the dry and trying to slow them down .....DOH ............Maybe you ought to start working for them.

And yes i have no regards for the feelings of people who drive like a knobhead.

In the 20 yrs i have been driving sometimes over 1000 miles a week i have yet to have an accident, But there is always a first i guess, thing is i cut my odds on having them by not driving to the cars limit and drive to road conditions.

Just thought, jeez i have been driving longer than some have you on here have lived.

Drive like a knob, just dont go on forums and say boo hoo i crashed my car as i was driving like a knob......I have no sympathy.

sorry fella, but racing slicks have NOTHING in common with balding road tyres. (except for being "black and round")

edit : not even sure where balding/bald road tyres ties in with this thread ... i don't recollect the OP saying he had bald tyres, just budget ones.

Thank you. My tyres all round had plenty of tread in them (5mm +). I did not put them on the car. They were put on by NVI cars when I bought it. I was going to be replacing them this spring. This isn't an excuse, though.

AFAIK, bald road tyres are down to a very hard protective compound (to protect the radial belts) and have nothing in common with proper tread compound, be it slick or grooved.

Alan; lets knock this saga on the head now! Appreciate you are a more advanced driver with a long life experience and obviously place a lot of emphasis on focus, concentration, safety and road driving etiquette and we applaud you, well done! My personal feeling is that you have a slight prejudice towards the younger set and or drivers for what ever reason/s and this really does come across. Admittedly there are some younger hot head drivers out there who display shocking driving antics with disregard to both law and other citizens too. However the person who just got sent away for a six year prison sentence for over taking on double white lines over a blind rise whilst being agitated behind another car and subsequently killed two young driver through no fault of their own was in fact a bloke probably of your age gauging by your experience feedback here. Driving is anticipation and being able to see the next few moves unfold before they do and allowing for considerable reactionary time, which evident ally you are aware of anyway. Finally Alan, unless you were actually there to witness Matt's accident and also able to make observations of his car equipment there then you would be making assumptions and to then make assumptions about Matt's driving ability based off his age and the photo of the crashed MR 2 and the limited feed back here does not qualify.

The old saying of assumption broken down is never assume; /ass/ u/ me/; makes and ar$e out of you and me The dumping syndrome is described where some one is having a bad day and lets it out by making some one else feel bad therefore they then carry forward these bad feelings and the dumper who has released these bad feelings walks away Scott free but them self feels a lot better him/her self. Really all it is is another form of indirect bullying. Know I have probably the same length of driving experience as yourself but grew up on Farms driving all vehicles from about ten or eleven years of age, currently hold an advanced driving certificate, have an interest in road safety and equipment too along with an MBA; degree specialising with motivation, human behaviour and psychology. Having said this I still take the humble approach to try and help our younger to be future generation enjoy a greater level and quality of life through supporting them, encouraging them and em parting my wealth of knowledge and experience to a positive end. In essence this is the basic ethos of humanity to help each other not abuse and attempt to bring them down to raise ones own ego and self esteem. Have a nice day. Thank you. How can you compare F1 slick tyres to road car tyres that have no tread?? Think about what your saying!

Just thought, jeez i have been driving longer than some have you on here have lived.

And the point of that comment is?

Drive like a knob, just dont go on forums and say boo hoo i crashed my car as i was driving like a knob

I've just read through the whole thread and I didnt once see him asking for sympathy or 'boo hoo-ing' about it, only admitting he was at fault. You made your point in your first post why keep going on about it?

Anyway, to the driver, glad to see your alright mate, never nice to see pictures like that

Matt, everytime I see those photos I'm still shocked

For the record, Matt is a fantastic driver, far better than myself and was not driving like a knob-head, he loved that car and was fully aware of it's capabilities, just unlucky on the day and glad no one was hurt.

I have Nankangs on the rear of my MR2... so there!

When I get my other MR2 back, it'll be built for drag racing and I was going to shell out for some slicks. if anyone is replacing their bald tires, send them my way and save me some money.

I NEVER slate anyone or other peoples opinions on forums as it's pointless and turns it into a bitching seesion but, Alan, when you eventually crash and you're badly hurt, as long as no one else is involved... we won't be smiling...... much. If you want my advice, I wouldn't post again... ever.

Well said Harry.
Alan, you talk as if nothing is ever going to go wrong in a car. You have more or less said you are glad of Matts crash and hope it's taught him a lesson.
What if a member of your family went out, drove down the road, around a corner and hit oil causing them to spin and crash resulting in an injury.
Would you then say you were glad?

An accident is just that, an accident.

 8-[

All I can say is I'm glad no-one was hurt, that looks very nasty indeed!

Lets hope it reminds those on the forum what can happen if things go wrong - it clearly doesn't forgive easily!

FWIW I had a 'moment' coming into the winter and I have loads of tread on F1s - a damp but dry period where muck builds up on the road can be very dangerous indeed - true that I obviously wasn't driving to the conditions but I really wasn't giving that much.

Hope you come back to the fold Matt, at least get an N/A to get some confidence back if you need too :thumleft:

I'll be back! In an NA?........

NEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was later informed that there was mud all over the road where farmers had been leaving the adjacent fields in their tractors. I believe there were many factors that contributed to my off, one of them being the use of slightly too much throttle.

Just like to say thanks again for all the support.

You're almost right :) They were an option on earlier cars, and fitted as standard on Rev3 upwards. But yes, it's a very good thing for Matt's sake that it was a Rev3!
