[Mk2] [Turbo] Pistons with bottom end in

Post by zebidi »

Is it possible to remover the head, keep bottom end in to replace/remove the pistons on the rev3 engine?

I have seen articles about it but have all so far been on the rev1s and 2s which have a huge sump plate.

Thanks

sorry mate not nit picking ,but seen too many engines rebuilt by bodgers who have bent the cooling nozzles meaning the pistons burn out I just thought it was worth mentioning as not too many novice mechanics may even know they are up there . It Was a constructive addition ,not a sarcastic dig :thumleft:

Not sure of the reason your fitting pistons but if its an upgrade, IE new rings. I thought it was standard practice to hone the bores to allow the new rings to bed in correctly.

As far as i know the rings won't bed as well without a quick hone.

justa quick hone will suffice just to aid the bedding in of the rings
That is of course as long as the bores are in pretty good shape to begin with

you can hone the bores while the block is in the car but theres nothing like honing them on a bench with a torque plate.

cheers karam
