[Mk2] [NA] Alternator prices?

Hey all. Looking like I will need either battery or alternator (or poss both). Anyone know how much Mr T charges for either part and if there are any other options to consider in both cases?

Im not 100% sure but I think Alternator may cost around £170 and Battery about £40-60? Either way Mr T will screw you over £££ for fitting it etc...

I bought a brand new alternator off ebay for £90 a few weeks ago for a rev1 g-ltd. Battery just get one from Halfords.

i've had two failed alternator's now and its normally cheaper to take it off and find somewhere that reconditions them. They normally charge between £50-70 but you'll have new brushes, regulator etc.

See if you can find one of these mobile mechanics who specialise in vehicle electronics. I found one in my local yellow pages and he fixed it for me without getting a new one. They dont have to be an MR2 specialist - in the end an alternator is an alternator!

toyota is approx £400 dependant on which alt it is. they do have a surcharge on them aswell though.

a recon place will do it for a fraction of that, ive had 2 and both at £80

Thanks for all the advice fellas. Got it sorted with a new unipart one for £115. Mind you took the garage 3hrs to fit it... had to take off the backbox, the arb and an engine mount to get the old one off!!!
Still, £250 all in is still not too bad I reckon.

You dont need to do all that! They only needed to remove the alternator bracket and the diagnostics box. Typical garages!

Alternators realy are a piece o p1$$ to repair, ive repaired 2 now just take it apart find the bit that is burned out usually the bushes then just order from toyota £10 jobs a good un.
Cant believe people are paying over £70 for a used or recon alternator blimey
I mite start a bussiness repairing them myself and selling them on

youre going to the wrong garage! its a 1 hour job MAX, and that if you are removing an exhaust with rusty bolts that need grinding

you dont need to remove ARB or engine mounts, just the exhaust middle section and drop the alternator out from the bottom...

also definately no need to remove the diagnostics box and alternator brakcet

I find the easiest way is to unbolt alternator, push it to one side then unbolt bracket then all comes out easy, takes about 20 min.

What on earth are you on about. Id say unbolting the mounting bracket and the little diagnostics connector and lifting it out the top is miles easier than taking off the exhaust!

Seems you need to research a bit before you go rubbishing other peoples advice.
