[Mk2] [Turbo] Big BHP and handling

Post by Ironmind »

Wondering how the 400bhp+ tubbys handle other than a straight line?
Going fast running that power whats stopping you from spinning everytime you hit a corner on boost?

mines suprisingly a very very well handeling car, i was at 389bhp before the rebuild it did sometimes shake its ar$e out of the corner but compleetly controlable

have a look at my garage for suspension mods

ALSO dont scrimp on tyres they are a very important peice of kit!! and prehaps a wider prifile ie 8j fronts and 9j rears?

really depends on alot of things mate

driving ability
the rd
the corner
the rd surface
weather the rd goes from 1 surface to another
tyre weare
ect ect

and flat out in 4th would be well over 130mph so best to stick to a track { :-$ }

i really wouldnt like to say tbh although racelogice traction control is now avalible so that could be worth a look for you, they use this system in the lotus exige and we know how well they handel

Off boost most of us drive exactly like a normal MR2, and it's rarely those big turbos come on-boost mid-corner - you'd have to be driving a bit daft to provoke that. :)

Even then...I wouldn't be putting my foot down any more! Best thing is to keep it balanced, no harsh inputs. But that is true for any turbo on any boost.

have you decided on a turbo yet ?

if i were you, i'd budget in for suspension upgrades and new tyres so that when the builds complete, the handlings as good as it can be too.

Even a standard tubby demands respect and talent in bends IMO.

I agree - I would never boost around a bend on a public road unless I was in high gears and the bend was very long and gentle. I used to boost on exiting the corner in my old tubby adhering to the old slow in fast out principle.

She was only lightly modified by way of better airflow and could still feel like a handful.

Even in the dry if I came on the the throttle with too much enthusiasm coming off roundabouts or ioght corners she'd shake her ass a bit.

Not driven a turbo on the track so coudn't comment on that.
