i've just brought an mr2 and i think there maybe something wrong with the clutch, firstly the biting point is ridiculosely high, as soon as you rest your foot on the peddle it starts to lift the clutch off and secondly when changing gears at high revs or if i floor it at about 3500 in fifth the revs jump and the then drop then the speed comes up, its the same affect as wheel spinning almost, is it possible that the clutch is set too far away? and is it adjustable?
thanks for any info in advance

Re: [Mk2] [NA] clutch question
Sounds like its slipping to me?
Either you've running more than around 260-280 bhp and it can't cope (assuming its a stock clutch) or its knackered. I could be wrong...

Re: [Mk2] [NA] clutch question
Since it seams to be an N/A (so it's not likely of having that kind of worse power), I would say the clutch is on it's way out and needs replacing...

Re: [Mk2] [NA] clutch question
ok bit more info, the car is a standard 91 3sge so i'll be lucky to be getting 150bhp, seems to me the clutch is not fully engaging, hence the high biting point and slip at full torque or high load, was just wondering if anyone knew if it was adjustable and how to check it before i send it down to mr clutch?
Re: [Mk2] [NA] clutch question
Read somewhere (probably here) that the clutch is self adjusted (it adjusts automatically through it's life). If the bitting point is getting to high, that just means that there isn't much left to adjust...
I could be wrong, but everything points to ware...

Agree with Vitor. Yes you can adjust the position of the pedal...
I'd recommend taking it to one of the specialists on here tbh, you won't get it cheaper or done better anywhere else.
