£1200 aint a bad price, sounds like its got loads of service history and the new cambelt and radiator are 2 big jobs that you dont need to worry about. Lets see some pics :D

thanks blue wish i had your wheels though mine are well bu88ered ,i have a receipt for them thay were last refurbed in 1998 the laquer on them is unreal must be 2mm thick, stuck with what to do really do i spruce them up with cans and save for a set of 17" or pay and have standard rims refurbed properly im worried about 17" as the tyres will be same size all round and standard wheels are different sizes from front to back, must be like that for a reason mmmmm also thinking of have standard wheels polished i had a series one escort rs turbo with this done and looked very nice decisions.

Cheers Id rather have your car at the moment though, mine has been declared a write off and I'm currently driving an astra courtesy car. No biggy though as I'm getting her back from the insurance company soon as and repairing myself, just needs a new plastic front end, fogs and indicators.
Ive thought about getting 17's on mine but it came down to the price of the tires and I couldn't afford it. Obviously its much cheaper to have your existing wheels refurbed and it keeps the car standard which a lot of owners like. Most important thing is to get all the brake dust of them when cleaning the car as they will corrode pretty quickly.

Im not sure what to do with the front end. I was going to buy another mr2 but a turbo this time and then break or sell my old one. However Ive had the car now for nearly 4 years and done loads of work myself, basically I really miss it. Ive been stuck driving a crappy astra all week and possibly all this week and its crap, I really want my car back now.
What Im probably going to do is spend the insurance money on a new front end and side skirts and possibly a new exhaust. Its probably a bit stupid to spend over £1000 on a k reg NA but like your car mine is pretty spotless and having had a new rad and new suspension its got loads of miles left.
Im still thinking though :?

Go on blue. You know you want to. How many miles? Mines on 174 and still going not only strong but also fairly rapidly.

I probably will, mines on 105k and the engine is tip-top. Just need to find out what I have to do to re-insure it after its been written off, it will be a category d by the way. I'm pretty sure I can get it back for around £400 so I reckon i will be left with £1600 if things go my way.
Its crazy, at first I was p!ssed off but I thought what the hey Ill just spend the money on another, possibly better one but nope not anymore, ive since come to realise it has sentimental value and so it doesn't really matter what I spend to fix her up (i think).
No for my rant about the courtesy car. Before I proceed I mean no offense to anyone who drives a vauxhall but how do people drive these boring standard cars to work everyday, Ive done it for a week now and its bl00dy depressing, I cant wait to hand it back.
Its like its been designed for an moron. The lights come on automatically, the indicators don't work like normal ones and the windscreen wipers are automatic which is really annoying as they come on when the slightest bit of moisture hits the windscreen. Oh and make sure you put your seatbelt on or you will need a set of earplugs.... or a hammer. Rant over I want my car back, im calling the garage 2morow.

Get it back see what it needs, then give us all a shout via the wanted section
soon have it fixed
ive had two cat D write offs in the past and it hasn't affected insurance premiums, but then all insurance company's differ somewhat

better the devil you know than the devil you dont, since joing this site i have found people on here really love there cars and keep them for a number of years aswell, go for it blue sounds like you are still in love with yours you just wouldnt want te spend that money and a couple of months down the road want to get rid of it then you would lose and someone else would gain, go for it matey i cant wait for my days off to get cracking with mine give it a good t cut and polish and make a start with painting these wheels :-k

A friend of mine is looking at buying a mk2 n/a this week and asked me to give my opinion on these:
http://sis.virtual-showroom.co.uk/(kp2p ... =8231|2016
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/207776.htm

Now, I'm no great mk2 expert but from what I can see they both look like fairly tidy rev 1 examples. I told them to check that the t-bars don't leak and all the electrics work, and all the usual stuff like looking for oil smoke, seat wear vs milage etc. Anybody wanna share their expert opinions please??
