Sarah, is it only first timers on the circuit that need to attand briefings?

What about those who have raced there once or twice? Do they not need to attend a briefing?

Hi Garrick,

Correct, only first timers who haven't raced at a circuit before need to attend an obligatory drivers briefing.
If you've raced before there is no requirement to do so.

Going on what happened at Mallory, I'm surprised they don't make it compulsory for all.

Incidentally, how is it regulated? Is it the signature that prooves previous driving?

Briefings are there to familiarise first timers with the layout of the circuit - where the scrutineering bay, race control, assembly area and park ferme are located and anything specific to the circuit that you might need to know.

The racing start on the green flag lap incident was the result of a mix-up of instructions given to the driver on pole and failure to read the signals given by the marshalls - the only flag that can be used to start a race is a union jack! This is basic racecraft covered by the ARDS test and as such would not have been mentioned in a circuit briefing.

Karen's not driven at Brands before so will need to attend a briefing.

We left it too late to organise a practice session booking, and so the qualifying session will be her first time out on the track! #-o

I just hope the weather holds out... 8-[

Daunting! Especially the first corner, no doubt. Why is qualifying not on the timetable, though?

You guys too huh?
I've never raced at Brands either, a few laps at race car live back in 2005 but that's all but evaporated from my head!
With no testing for many, myself included, both qualifying and racing could prove very intreresting...

Intense reading of the Circuit Guide required, and a bit of TOCA 2 for us... :-s

There's pressure to get a good time thanks to the number of entries again. I think it's possible people may lose out on the race, isn't it? :pale:

I don't suppose you have any lap times from last year do you to give a figure to be heading for?

Yes indeed - keep an eye out for the black Rogue car with the blue stripe; that'll be his personal chariot for the day!

Someone on the 'OC has apparently secured some free passes and a dedicated MR2 parking area. Might be worth checking out but I don't have a link...

Cheers,
