Fidanza flywheel-cusco single plate (400bhp) clutch with matching
cusco clutch plate cover-(the un-famous alloy device with out the harmonic rubber band)-feather weight underdrive pulley-hks 264/264
cams direct to stock head/engine-stock ct20 turbo-stock rev3+ ecu.
Right so taking her from stock standard to as described above refinements
call it from lorry to race car!
Given all things equal upgraded fueling-fuel pump-fuel regulator-upgraded
ignition-various along with hks gold twin power ignition-cooling various with water injection-radtech rad-chargecooler.
Idle with the hks 264 cams is fine no issues what so ever, slow turning
steering is slightly heavier but the improved inertia makes the drive
just so effortless and so smooth revs running it is another car-fantastic love it!

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Effects of a lighter flywheel?
Ps checking into this and from my research (lol if you call it that!!) the flywheel weights are as follows:
Standard Flywheel = 11kg
Fidanza 55% less than OEM so = 4.95kgs
Chromology 5.5kg less than OEM so = 5.5kgs
Mark

Right O Mark let us know what you decide?
Doing the flywheels is a good time to do clutch as well we did all that along
with rebuilt gearbox with trd lsd-new bearings and shims along with fully synthetic gearbox fluid.
One smooth as silk-slick operation!!!

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Effects of a lighter flywheel?
i went and bit the bullet on this and bought an HKS one for my car, i didn't think it would make a differance but the car is definatly quicker it seems to spool up quicker and pulls harder, quite shocked that it made that much of a differance really!
Not to mention the joy i get by watching how quick the car revs up from idle

A quick point will either flywheel fit any clutch e.g. an RPS, Spec etc. or is there certain combos not suited?

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Effects of a lighter flywheel?
i would imagine it wouldn't matter to be honest
For referance though i went with the HKS Chromoly flywheel and RPS Street Max 450 Clutch Kit - Can't fault it, bite from the clutch is strong as a strong thing, and still can drive about town no hassle unlike a paddle clutch

Yep Just spoke to Rogue who said the 450lbs is the best for my spec.
Also gonna order the Cromo from GTS Chris later on.
Is your flywheel made by Cusco, cus I saw on RHD Japan a Cusco super light cromologyfly wheel? so just wondering if its the same?

well its an HKS one, i'm not sure who makes it, i'm guessing it would be HKS
Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Effects of a lighter flywheel?
chromoloy fitted here.
just a question though,
the standard is a ring gear sweated on to the flywheel,
chromoloy i have is one piece,
is the fidanza one piece?
ive seen some which are steel ring gear fixed onto aluminium,

but it's not the weight (or even mass) that is significant, it's the moment of inertia (MOI). it's quite possible for a 5 kg flywheel to have a higer MOI than a 10 kg one. If the manufacturers dont quote the MOI then I would be inclined to disregard their products.

Your theory is faulty. It will requires less torque to accelerate a flywheel with lower MOI. The amount of torque (not power) required to turn the transmission is determined by the frictional losses in the transmission (nothing whatever to do with the mass (or MOI) of the flywheel.
