so how did you use the hammer to retract the piston and what is the link to the how to you used?

I used the other end of the hammer

I wouldn't have believed it if i hadn't read it.

Why on earth doesn't the BGB suggest using a clamp to push back the pistons.

I would help with your CV joints, but it wasn't something i ever had to do to my '2, and my '2's been gone for a few years now.
