ive seen this a couple of times and i was very tempted to buy one.
Now im no mechanic, whats the difference in quality and how it performs between this and say a japan performance intercooler.
Would or does this do the same job as an expensive branded intercooler??????

for that kind off price it is a worthy upgrade...its almost identical to the berk intercooler but a third of the price...if money is tight then there is no reason why you shouldnt buy it...unless your looking for big power :)

The core is pretty good. The pipes are ok. The couplers are crap and don't even fit the pipes it comes with.
You don't get a shroud with a fan or a body side shroud.
The Berk Technology IC is a better choice. Costs more than the XSPower IC, but you get everything needed in one package.

I ended up using just the core from the kit.
My pipes are Greddy, the couplers and clamps are from Berk. The Fan and shroud are from ATS racing and the block off plate is from Brad Bedell. I picked up the pipes and fan/shroud used so that saved me a little money.
The IC isn't the toughest install, guess it depends on your mechanical skills. Its a tight fit getting the stock IC out, some folks have had to remove the AC compressor.
Heres a little how-to: http://www.turbomr2.com/MR2/HowTo/Inter ... er_PG1.htm

The MR2 featured in those pictures is mine. I fitted the first one in the UK.

The kit is good for the money but as mentioned it does miss a few pieces. It doesn't have a side shroud. I've made my own from sheet aluminium.

The small elbow joints are a smaller diameter than the resy of the kit. only a couple of mm but i had to 'pad' the hose to get a good fit.

And the shiney pipes are shiney. They haven't dulled at all in all the time i've had it (nearly 2 years) and i don't clean/polish them.

I can't tell you how effective it is as i have now pre and post power readings and no temp readings.

The core may look simular to the Berk one but they're no way the same.

Thats not to say it wont work by any means. If anything they generally just look a little less "polished" and clean than the Berk ones. But you cant really see it any way.

yes, stock fan will mount to it

If you buy xs=power be prepared to buy different hose couplers, shroud, camps etc

My advice...buy a berk intercooler kit - try gtschris.com think it 400

(BTW i have an xs-power intercooler, and its pretty good

uprated intercooler lets you run higher boost safer; by cooling the air, thus reducing the temperature of the air at the intake

to the lads asking why to upgrade...

The air entering your engine = power

colder air = more power (because cold air is more dense than warm air)

Warm air = less power, but also increased knock as the warmer air is more prone to preignition due to its higher temperature.

When you up the boost the temperature of the air rises, as such the knock level under boost increases which in turn will sooner or later kill your engine, by using the upgraded intercooler the the higher boost will not result in higher temps resulting in an increase in power from more boost without the risk of killing your car.

The intercooler, will not on the whole give you power on its own. its more about protection from heat related issues, however as it decreases temps at the higher boost there is a gain from lower temps.

Hope my rambling makes sense? . . . if that still don't make sense just accept that its worth doing and buy one :D
