[Mk2] [NA] dam rear brakes

Post by Igor »

just failed the mot on the rear brakes as well as a few other bits and bobs.

i've got myself a set of rear discs and pads. when i took the old ones out i tried to push the piston in on the caliper in so i could get the new pads in but it wouldnt move.

does this mean my calipers need replacing?

Hi mate no you will need to wind them in as the piston is on a screw thread spray lots of wd or releasing agent on the piston to help it turn it can be very stiff its best to use a proper tool as well.i found the best way is to release the handbrake cable by removing the pin that makes sure the handbrake it not on slightly plus you need to wind the piston back as far as it goes then turn it back out 180 degrees lining up the v groove in the piston with the pin on the brake pads hth Regards Steve
