[All] [Generic] Metal spigot rings?

Post by ChrisW »

I occasionally have to replace the plastic spigot rings on my wheels because they've become deformed, presumably because of clumsy mechanics who don't take care lining up the wheel with the hub. Does anyone know where I could get a set of metal rings, either off the shelf or custom made?

So far I've emailed Wheels UK and Performance Alloys but they can't help.

I've seen them on eBay, seems to be the easiest place to get them if you know the size you want.

Yeah eBay was my first thought too but they were all either plastic or not available in the right size. I need an outside diameter of 79.5mm which seems to be pretty rare.

I was hunting for them not so long ago but gave up when I found some different wheels instead - I'm sure I googled to a site that had a huge range though, it was one of the big online wheel suppliers... let me have another look...

There's a guy on twobrutal.com who's advertising custom cnc machining service, including spigot rings.

Hi Jon, long time no see :D

I've been pointed in Adam's direction by someone else - and I've just got a message from him to say my rings are ready!

Hi Chris,

Glad to hear you've got it sorted. Let me know how good they are, I might be tempted to get some for my alloys when the MR2 comes out of hibenation \:D/

Woohoo I've got my own custom made metal spigot rings!

They were slightly too tight to get on the hub at first but Adam re-machined them free of charge and they're now a perfect fit. The quality is excellent.

They look pretty good, what are they made from? aluminium? stainless steel?

Mild steel I believe. Hopefully they won't rust onto the hubs if I take the wheels off every now and then.

Ho do you know what size you need?

I have Work VS-XX 17" 8 and 9" widths et 35 all round, and can tell they're fractionally out of centre to the hub.

Take one of your wheels off and measure the diameter of the centre mounting hole. It needs to be accurate to about 0.1mm so you'll need a calliper.

That gives you the outside diameter of the spigot ring. The inside diameter needs to be 60.1mm for the Mk2.
