Pleasantly Surprised

Post by SuperRedMR2 »

Hello All,

I have just down a 310 mile weekend, as i went to Worksop with my girlfriend to stay at her mates for the weekend, as it was her birthday.

In the past, i have moaned about my mpg, but...i managed to get 37.7 when averaging 90mph on the A1! It was one of the most pleasant drives ive ever had on a long distance run. But of course when getting back into Essex, the usual suspension knocks and acceleration problems kicked back in again!

Never knew these cars were so comfortable on the old long distance drivers. My wrist is killing me though as holding the steering wheel for three hours though :(

These polyurethane bushes...i am interested in the group buy on the other thread, once i got em, do i have to go a Specialist to get them fitted? Or does anyone know if there is anyone in Essex who can do them and/or is cheap and done them before?

regards,

Alex

My best (in my old mk1a) was 42.7mpg. On the way back from JAE 2005.

Mark did 38.9 in his SC.. we just sat there at 55mph in convoy (obviously!).

I'm not sure i agree about being comfortable on long drives though. They are pretty noisy, mind you all my mk1s have always run on uprated suspension so you do lose some of the refinement i guess.

I used to commute to Devon in mine - not the most enjoyable of experiences, which is why I bought a 200SX. The downside to that was 22mpg :(

I've managed just over 500 miles in one day, in my old mk1. Worst bit is the constant drone at motorway speeds, cabin comfy though, even at 6'2"!

\:D/ the best I have had is 47 mpg on a run of 275 miles all motorway,
at a steady 60, also 38mpg towing a trailer tent in my automatic mk1
at a steady 60, its only doing 2500 rpm in overdrive at this speed
