Over the past few weeks I've noticed the performance (I know, I know - it's an NA ) and economy of my car deteriorating.
I had been averaging between 280 - 300 miles on a full tank but over the last fortnight I'm lucky if I have seen 230 on the twice I have filled it up.
I've also noticed that it doesn't want to shift as willingly when I sink the go pedal either.
Does this sound like it could be related to the Lambda sensor? I have had one go before on a previous car with similar symptoms.
Any help much appreciated.
Cheers,
Graeme

Yeah a dodgy O2 sensor could be justification for mpg dropping.

When did you last renew your iggy components, esp. plugs?

^^^ What he said re O2 sensor.
Even 300 per tank isn't great on an n/a.

When I bought the car in May the guy had just had it serviced. I haven't changed the plugs since then.
Have every intention of doing it soon though.
Thanks for the replies all. I'll try the plugs etc for replacing the O2 sensor.
Cheers

Also, is this the same as the Air Intake Temp Sensor? I'm getting error message 24, occasional poor idle, and crappy mpg.
If this is easy to locate/clean/repair/replace on a Rev 2 n/a I'd really appreciate it.
Googling for air sensors throws up all sorts, quite frankly.
Re: [Mk2] [NA] Car running like a bag of $h!t£...
O2 sensor and air intake temp sensor are different.
Air intake temp sensor is the one that is on the right hand side of the airbox as you look down at it. A broken or disconnected sensor would produce a 24 error code.
Check this sensor is connected and that your air filter element is not a cheap and nasty one or just dirty/blocked.
I had an error 24, crappy mpg and poor idle after the first service I had done when I first bought my tubby, turns out the garage replaced the filter element with a cheapo one that was so tightly packed it wasn't letting any air in and the car was running rich as hell! And they left the airbox sensor unplugged as well

Bloody hell, 300 to tank isnt great, i have never had over 240 to a full tank, and thats running from worthing to oxford and back. doesnt take long though so that might contribute!

I guess I should have said 300 per tank as a maximum isn't great on an n/a - it all depends how you're driving really. When I had my n/a I'd regularly get 380 or more from a tank if I was on the motorway and driving at legal speeds. It soon drops if you're having fun, though!
