To open the gap, carefully use a pair of fine nosed pliers or a specialist gapping tool (not slide type for Iridium or other fine wire types) to bend the ground electrode outwards, away from the centre electrode. Take care not to contact the porcelain insulator or the centre electrode as they can be easily damaged. Use a feeler guage to check for the correct gap size - it should be a light sliding fit. To close the gap, tap the ground electrode gently on a hard surface and then open the gap to the required setting using the method described above.

Is that really just the denso or does that apply to the rest too,coz if so, i might need to change them asap!! [-o<

Could be wrong but thought HKS just rebrand the Denso ones? Or was it the NGK ones?

Yeah HKS & denso are the same - apparently blitz too.

I would stick with NGK - they seem to be proven enough :thumleft:

denso ik22's for the last 20k at 18psi, been brilliant.

Has any one on here actually ever had a tip fall off, or just hearsay?

I think if you dont damage the tip when gapping them then they should be fine.

i've seen it happen, it also happened to JJ on here, i'm 99% sure he was running iridiums at the time

they are very suspect if you run nitrous on them

I've had a total reliance on these.... no tips lost & don't know or have any evidence of any tips being lost yet.

I've only 'heard' of them coming off anyway.. :-k

Hmmm wouldn't quite go that far, i was scared how much mine had worn in the space of 12 months but i have done silly mileage tho.

They should last longer than standard copper plugs

BKR6EP-8
there the boys I use.

Dont have no issues - regardless of boost pressuer run.

I'll prbo change them again in about 6months or so by then they would have done near 30Km on them and the other ignition components will be changed at the same time.

Im not changing to copper plugs and replacing them every 2K like some do, its Time and money wasted.

Well if you don't have no issues, then you must have issues. What are they?

NGK BKR6EP-8 platinum plugs are the ones reccomended both by Toyota (in the owners manual) and NGK (on their web site) for 92 onwards cars (I think ones with a CAT) for both turbo and N/A cars. Being platinum they last a lot, lot longer than copper and are meant to last a whopping 60-80,000 miles (doesnt mean they dont need cleaning though).

NGK BKR6EIX which are iridium (a platinum alloy) are harder again and have a pointy tip.

Both are correctly gapped to .8mm (0.031") as per page 150 of the owners manual. personally I wouldnt muck about trying to gap them yourselves - more than likely make a right hash of it! :-)

Doing a group buy including plugs if anyone is interested...
