get a quote for a UK car ... at least then you'll see if it makes it any cheaper.

Have you tried Tesco?, i'm a fair bit older than you but they were my cheapest quote and have reduced the premium every year so far.

Why not just get a UK spec? Spend what you save on doing it up.

Sounds like you're going to be lucky to find a decent quote, have you thought about getting a MK1 instead? I think that's what I would do in your position, those quotes are just so unrealistic for anyone on anything near an average wage. You get any points on your licence and you'll be screwed with a price hike that you might not be able to afford.

I'm assuming mk1 insurance is cheaper and easier to obtain for younger folks, can someone confirm this pwease?

Nope, same engine and car, in fact if you have all the toys air-con etc it'll probably weigh abit more.

OFFLEY INSURANCE have been finding me decent quotes on stupid cars for the last 15 years.

When I got my 2 I rang around all the "specialists" and, eventually, decided I'd give my old-faithful broker a try. They IMMEDIATELY managed to halve the £500-odd I'd been quoted by others and THEN phoned me back and said they'd messed up (uh-oh) and forgot to factor in my immobiliser and knocked off another £100!

Oh, therein lies another top tip: If you don't have a cat 1 immobiliser fitted, get one. It might cost you a couple of hundred quid but you might even save that in your first insurance quote.

Heya dude,
Silly q but when you tried adrian flux did you ask if it would make any difference if you were a member of the mr2dc? That way you get on the club scheme rather than just a random quote...
Good luck,
Rob.

Could you be thinking of the BEAMS engine that was in some of the late Jap NAs?
