[Mk2] [Generic] FAO People with Goodridge Brake Hoses

Post by trd2000mr2 »

Hi all,

Failed my MOT this morning so slightly annoyed. The fault..

The front 2 brake hoses weren't secured within the bracket holes properly. It seemed that the hose couldn't fit in the original bracket?

My question is what's the easiest way to secure the hose properly to the inner arches? Is this a common problem with all MR2's when fitting brake hoses? I would really appreciate it if someone could look at their hoses and see if they are secured tightly and how it is done.

I also failed the emmissions test. Changed my decat to the old cat, and i was still over! Anyone else have this problem? I thought that it would pass with the original cat??

cheers

Emissions could be ur O2 sensor. They are known to go... Don't buy from Mr T tho. There's a blueprint lamda specialist somewhere in Hull that delivers to anywhere in the UK I think.

I presume you are referring to the retaining bracket on the strut.

My Goodridge hoses were a direct replacement including the fitting for the strut.
The hoses are complete and the bracket fitting is installed on the hose at the factory. The Goodridge hose also uses the stock retaining clip to hold it in place.

hi mate,

cheers for that.... it could well be. I was thinking of changing the whole exhaust system back to stock just for the MOT? Do you reckon this will reduce the emissions even with a faulty O2 sensor?

How easy is the O2 sensor to fit? I have a UK 98 reg spec NA if that changes anything?

cheers

Damn..i may have been stung by a botch job then... :(

thanks for the reply though

Im at work ATM so cant examine deeper, but it seemed that the hose didnt have the bracket fitting on it. Any ideas on how to DIY secure it just to pass the MOT?

cheers

Would something as simple as a cable tie be sufficient?

lol, cheers for that.. it was exactly what i used in the end. But the MOT guy was still a bit reluctant to pass me, saying that it's only plastic and will rip, the ****! Passed in the end though..

cheers guys :thumleft:

Yeah the O2 sensors are easy to fit. Get a voltmeter on it and see if it's pulsing away, that will show if it's knackered or not. Changing the exhaust back won't make much difference, if any, the engine will still be getting bad readings from the sensor - thus screwing up ur emissions!

Hello mate,

I had issues fitting my goodridge hoses.

Firstly, the holes in the rear bracket that held the hose against the inner arch (where it joints the car's metal brake pipes) didn't line up with the stock holes.

Solution was to widen the holes in the goodridge bracket slightly.

Secondly, the goodridge lines have a collar around them about half way along, which fits into the suspension strut bracket. There is then a clip that slides into this collar above and below this bracket, and the collar has 2 grooves to accommodate these clips.

On all 4 hoses, the grooves in the collasr weren't far enough apart to allow the clips to go above and below the bracket - ie the suspension strut bracket was too fat.

Solution was to file the suspension strut bracket down - ie make it flatter allowing the clips to both fit into place.

The clips get tired quite quickly too - a new set can be had quite cheap from Toyota.

FWIW, I fitted a set to a friends Rev1 a while back and didn't have any problems - in fact, they fitted better than some Black Diamond hoses that I was fitting at the same time to my Rev2 Turbo.

FYI the brake hoses don't actually have to be secured to the strut to pass the MOT, they just have to not foul any moving component throughout the full suspension movement. My car passed its MOT without the hoses being secured to anything, I did cable tie them up eventually for peace of mind but they were no where near fouling.
