Hey all.
I have 15x7 rears with 35 offset so they fit further out by 10mm I believe (is this correct, standard is 45 on a '90 uk t-bar?). My question is can I use a 10mm spacer either side to bring them closer to the front look (same wheel so 24mm further out than standard...looks just right in the arch). What does this spacer do to the offset and is it ok for the rears. Also where do i get 'em?
Whilst I'm asking anyone know if all bootlids intended for spoilers (ie. all revs) share the same holes for fixing the spoiler.... I know the 3 piece rev1 and 2 will have more holes.
Thx for any info.

Search for the deffinition of offset (on here somewhere I believe) and the answer will be blindingly obvious to you...
...and unless I am mistaking your question (in which case someone will correct me) but the answer is 'no'.

Well standard offsets are 35 -> 38 on the Mk2. If you use spacers you just have to be sure that you have enough bolt thread to get your nuts on. IIRC its been recommended before to get at least 5 full turns with the nuts to be safe...

Well, revs 1 and 2 will be different to 3 and 4. I also assume rev 5 is different again. You can always fill holes but of course you'll need to spray them too.

This is a confusing question!
AFAIK offset is only one measurement, do a search on the definition as Turbo-G says. Alloys that are 2/3 piece rims often have different offsets to one another. Normally you can get different offsets for one type of wheel. Does this answer your Q?

it says 45 on my standard alloys (front and rear)
Re: spacers and offsets....
That's what I've always been told so in that case I have no idea!

Re: spacers and offsets....
isn't the 35-38 because people want wider wheels?

Take a look at this sticky...
Appears the offset is probably 45, although its slightly confused!

Depending on width then yes, (mk2) Stock are et45 all round with the rear wheels being an inch wider. If you go for after market wheels that are the same width and offset all round then the rears will sit futher inside the arch.
If fitting 8j rims up front you can't use et45 wheels because they will foul the suspension and will require an offset around 35 (or use hub-centric spacers to achieve it) using the same offset on slimmer wheels just makes them sit flusher with the wheel arch.
@Rob - I take it you have 7x15 et35 all round? If so then fitting 10mm spacers to the rears will help them sit more in line with the front wheels and make your offset 25, That offset on a 7j wheel would still clear the rear arch lip so no modifying required.
@BLZ - Not sure what you mean either by inner/outer offset. Offset refers to the distance between the mounting surface and the centre of the wheel and is the same for 1,2,3 piece wheels. You can have Positive or Negative offset but i don't think i've ever come across a negative offset road car yet

Good man, would be useful if the mods could sort that one then!
Re: spacers and offsets....
On the "other" site it says the most common set up for 17" wheels are as follows:
17x7 ET35 205/40/17 or 215/40/17 front
17x8 ET35 235/40/17 or 245/35/17 back
17x7.5 ET35 215/40/17 front
17x8.5 ET35 245/35/17 back
So is ET35 the best offset for an ideal fitment on 17's?

id say yeh....
offset
The reason i asked if split rims have different offsets
is that i have just bought some wheels which are 16inch
two wheels are 8inch and two are 7inch
with 205 and 225 tyres
i haven't cleaned the wheels up properly yet but the only offset stamped on the inside says offset 06
not seen this before but then again never bought split rims before

if the wheel is stamped with offset 06
Is there an "ET" followed by 2 numbers anywhere on the inside of the wheel?

Re: spacers and offsets....
Hey Andy thx for info.
I thought it would simply change offset as you describe so thx for confirmation. Two q's though.... 1) could I use a 15 mm spacer with no probs rather than a 10 as I cant seem to find a 10 anywhere?
2) Any other issues attached... I know an offset too far off the standard at the front will effect the steerings self-centering. Any issues with the rears?
Thx mate.
