alloy offset

hi

can anyone tell me what offset means? looking at some 17's:
Metal Type: Aluminium Stud Diameter: 114
Rim Width: 7.5J Brand: ROTA
Rim Diameter: 17 inches Rim Structure: One Piece
Offset: 45 Manufacturer Part Number: REV
Number of Studs: 5

will these be alright for my Mk2?

Hi mate,

The offset of a wheel is the distance from the mounting surface of the wheel to the true centerline of the rim. A positive offset means the mounting surface of the wheel is positioned in front of the true centerline of the rim / tire assembly. This in effect brings the tire in to the fender well more. Conversely, a negative offset means the mounting surface of the wheel is behind the true centerline of the rim / tire assembly. This will cause the tire to stick out away from the vehicle.

And yes, I imagine those rims will fit alright. 8)

I have Rota Torque 17" by 7.5" on the front of mine with an offset of 45mm and you will find with standard struts you have about 3mm clearance from rim to strut.
I've never experienced any rubbing despite that small a clearance...so yes they will fit.
