Oil Pressure Gauge - Max reading?

Post by alias »

Hi,

Have done a search, can't find the answer, so maybe someone can help?

I have just fitted some Speedhut pressure and temp gauges 8) , and was wondering what the max pressure should be. When idle it is about 23psi, and when pootling around it is anything between 40 and 80, and when reaching the redline, it can go up to 95 - 100psi.

Can someone confirm that this normal and put my mind at rest?

Thanks a lot. :D

Where are you measuring the pressure? It'll make a difference whether you are measuring it at the turbo, head or filter...

That said, I though the oil pressure relief valve opened at around 80psi?

Hmmmm..

I am measuring it using a sandwich plate @ the oil filter.

The gauge goes up to 100psi, and it can hit that when touching redline.

Any clues anyone??

Cheers

Idle is 2 bar (28psi), cold start 6 bar (88psi), on circuit when warm about 6 bar (88psi). If you rev her from cold, it can go as high as 9 bar though!

Thanks for the reply. I feel much better now, as it seems to be doing pretty much that. Was a bit concerning though, watching it go to the limit of the gauge, albeit under extreme circumstances.

Thanks again Neil. =D>
