MR2 Manuals - PDF versions

Post by ugli-stix »

Does anyone know about the legality of (freely) distributing the PDF versions of the manuals that you can get off of eBay? I have the electronic system and repair/maintenance manuals for the 90+ model and thought that people on here might like to have them as well rather paying for them off of eBay. I have somewhere to host them but I don't wanna get in trouble with Mr.T.

Perhaps I could add the disclaimer of "to be used as backup copies for originals" which all the eBay people seem to say?

Just for people's info - these are a bit better than the ones you usually get off eBay as I spent an awful lot of time last year re-mastering them so that instead of the usual page scans (essentially A4 pictures for each page) these are now full text versions - which means you can use the search function in Acrobat reader, etc. It also means that they are a lot smaller in size (~30MB for the repair manual and 9MB for the electronic wiring one).

The manual numbers are: RM179U1, RM179U2 and EWD083U.

Seriously doubt you'd run into any trouble hosting these for people to download plus your not doing it for any financial gain.

What's the link for them?....

Hmmm - okay I'll put them online. I'm in the process of uploading them sorting out the web page. I'll add the url when its done.

BTW - if anyone has the other manuals in PDF form and wants them made text searchable (and un-passworded) so that they can be added to the same web area then throw them my way and I'll get cracking.

May I suggest the site adds a link via a post in the knowledge base? Good work though Ugli

Actually this is a very pro-Toyota forum, so even if they did notice I suggest that their sentiment would be positive.

Ok all - here's the link.

As I said - these are similar to the eBay ones except they are now text searchable. If admin want to download and host on the imoc site for the knowledge area then thats fine by me.

Very impressive =D>

That will help a lot of users indeed,

How did you do the image/text conversion? I have the AW11 BGB manuals I would like to do the same (hosting them for the benefit of all 'moc-ers out there ;) )

Image text conversion was done using the latest professional version of Acrobat. It has some pretty nifty optical character recognition (OCR) software built in. Took bloody ages though and I had to seperate the manual into smaller segments and then sew the results back together again - mainly due to the memory limitations of the software and/or my computer.

No worries people - I just hope the ebay sellers aren't too peeved.

Just as a reminder - if anyone has any of the other manuals then throw them my way and I'll 'searchify' them and wack 'em up on the web page.
