Yes us UK boys aren't at the level of the US when it comes to tuned MR2's. Ask over their. There was an actual survey on this on there.

And also speak to Fensport. They have gone few quite a few.

Its happened to a few rev3's running 300-330 bhp. V8Killer here was unlucky enough to have that problem. Rev1 and Rev2's have a different cast block and don't seem to have a similar issue.

Come on Ben. Didn't you read my posts in the other threads? ;)

The US boys are cracking blocks from all revs at anything over 400hp. So the early revs do seem to have that problem.

Damn! Hope my Rev2 will be ok pushing about 380@fly. Kept it instead of switching to a Rev3 'cause I hear the blocks are *generally* a little stronger. Guess I'll find out soon :D

would be interesting to see out of those that have cracked, if they had the block bored out or was standard bore

Any chance of a guarantee? ;)

Kept mine as standard bores too, for safety more than anything

No chance mate lol.

A guy called Tristan did a lot of work on finding what the problem was. Have a search on the US OC and you'll find it/

Jay, the US lads listed up all their mods when they stated whether or not they had cracked their blocks. Have a search and see.

Rev3 wasn't it m8? Damn some of them blocks are fragile :(

Am just hoping my Rev2 will take 380-385@fly, should do :)

Spec below if anyone's interested;

Rebuild with forged pistons & everything else needed
T3/T4 Turbo Stage3 (still pondering this atm, have to replace my ct20b tho)
HKS 256 Inlet Cam and pair of Cam Gears for adjustments
ATS Fuelrail, uprated fuelreg and 540cc injectors
Berk IC and Paul Port programmable Water Injection system

And some other bits like RPS 6-puk clutch etc

Very interested in this thread. I'm building a 400bhp rev 3 based engine with a .5mm overbore.

Off to the .com boreds to do some reading then [-o<

I wouldn't over bore a stock block.

Mushin, Neil. What size pistons did you have?

I was speaking to Tony at Fensport and he said you shouldn't bore it out to fit bigger pistons as you are making a weak block weaker. They had problems running 87mm pistons (with a stroker kit) on a thickwalled block. Thats why they went down to 2.1 (going from 87mm pistons to 86mm).

I wouldn't go bigger pistons on our blocks. From what Tony was saying. 87mm pistons or 86.5 are ok on thick walled blocks but when you go stroker on a thick walled block is when you get the problems on them. Should have got a kit where the 2.2 is all in the stroke (like mine 8) )

Stock blocks I'd go stock size pistons.

Or get a thick walled block like I have

or cheaper and stronger than a thickwalled block get a sleeved block like i did ;)

i agree on the overboring, that's why i sleeved mine, not too keen on the idea of wekening mr2 blocks that are knwon to crack

My good mate Nick has been running 87.5mm pistons for 40k miles on his rev 2  it runs at 1.5bar and is producing 350 bhp on standard rev 2 injectors and ecu

Yes.

I would only go to one guy to sleeve a 3s block. Only problem is he is in the US lol
