New tyres have a substance over them that a used to remove them from the mould, ie it's designed to be slippy.

If the weather is wet this will be magnified by 100.

More than likely. If you can wait until it's dry and go and burn off the top layer.

Also, turn off capslock please :)

Your car (if it's 1990 it's rev1 mate) will have come with 195 front and 225 rear

Lol, you always get that with new tyres. They bed in after about 100 miles or so. I'm surprised that tyre fitters don't warn people about it like they do with new brakes.

His car is indeed a rev1 (1990 & 14inch alloys), but rev1s came with 205's on the rears as standard :shock:

Personally I'd be looking at fitting at least 225's on the rear - if that's possible on stock rev1 rear alloys :?:

It is possible, but hard to find tyres that width on 14's! 205s arent so bad, very slippy on roundabouts. 225's will make all the difference. I've had 3 sets of 14's now. 225s are deffo the best 195's all round are an ultimate no no ! =;

I'm inbetween, I run 215's on the rear and 205's on the front. Seems to grip okay although never tried 225's.

Check your tyre pressures also :!:
(tyre places generally haven't a clue and go with a general PSI - for example mine came back as 36psi on rear even though i told them 33 please ](*,) )

205's are pretty hairy :shock:

I know, I had 205's all around.

Now have 215's on front and 235's on rear...sticks much better! 8)

Steve, I think you're sorted now - but in my experience, A539s on a Mk2 don't work that well - neither do the OEM A-022s. I'd try some Toyo T1-Rs, or even better buy some later Rev2-on rims and tyres - there is a lot more choice with 15" rims.

Thanks everyone for your advice,my tyres seem ok now it must have been the coating what they have on them when new,even thou i never heard of it before,you would think they would come with a warning or clean the coating off or something,if id have taken the corner faster id have probably stuck it in the wall :shock:.they seem fine now in wet and dry,not as good as my old bridgstones thou it feels different.anyway thanks to you all for your advice cheers steve
