Unless they test another car to get your results in your '30 minute' window, i'm afraid you'll have to put the cat back in.
Its all monitored on a computer database now.

I thought the loophole existed up to ~1995. After that, all cars must have a cat. I've seen a diagram somewhere that explains this in more detail.

There.. :D

the Toyota one has twin tailpipes, and a single catalytic converter just after the turbo. Driving a post J plate 1992 car without a catalytic converter in itself is not illegal, as a MOT test loophole allows a non-cat test to be performed on cars upto mid 1995 - Part 1 of the FAQ has more information.

This was off bens website..

Sorry people, but I knew what the cut off date was (31 July 1995) and that I would have to reinstall the cat. #-o That was not the question and the reason why I wanted to be PM'd if anyone knew of a garage that could help me. I know there are others out there in the same situation as me who have had there car passed without refitting the cat. Any of them care to share the garage with me by PM'ing me.

The problem is now that the details are all on computer and fully accessible to the police. As such to stop things like that happening,

Yep, but that does not stop them sticking the emissions reader up the exhaust of another vehicle running next to mine, or am I missing something.

Can I just say if anyone knows a 'friendly' MOT tester to PM Tony with his details rather than post them here. I don't think they would be too friendly if they lost their MOT license!

Have you tried just getting it tested with out the cat? I have heard of some peoples success getting it through the MOT with out a cat and still passing the emissions.
