Wheels for 91 Mr2

Post by Goldy »

Hi there,
I'm looking to get some bigger nicer alloys for my 91 standard mr2. I want something a bit bigger than the tiny 14 inchers on there at the mo.. I was looking at 17's packages and just have a few questions.

1. Do you need wider tyres on the rear?
2. I read the rear tyres need to be slightly larger than the front, to keep the handling balance, is this right?
3. Will fitting bigger wheels destroy the cars handling?
4. Will 17's fit straight on?
5. What sizes/width combination of wheels and tyres are recomended?
6. Anyone got any ideas which wheels would look good, I was looking at some BK wheels or possibly five spoke kosei ones...

Sorry if these ar stupid questions?

Thanks in advance!

1. Yes 235/40/17 on rear
2. Front 215/40/17
3. bigger than 17"s will upset the handling
4. Yes
5. 7x17 are most wheels but ideal combo would be 8x17 rear, 7x17 front
6. Split Rims

Not keen on traction hey Craig?
I got 245/35/17 on the rear.
Though mine are 8" wide all round.

I agree, 17" is a nice compromise between handling and looks.
and yuhuh, split rims are THE nuts! IMO!

sorry, another opportunity for another pic of my wheels! lol 8)
