How do you get that sound...

Post by dan.h »

this sounds dumb but what is the best way to get the "doo doo dooo dooo dooo" sound? (it sounds like a robotic pigeon or something)

instead of the standerd Doosssssssshhhhh

i think it has something to do with an external wastegate?!

cheers peeps,

Danny

You need an HKS SSQV my friend! It's a replacement Blow off valve.

yeah that ssq makes that noise inbetween high and low boost valves, since there are two valves i think on the unit its the low boost and the hight boost opening and fluttering. the noise your on about i think comes either from induction from the afm or yes a performance wastgate or actuator.

With the correct fitting kit, it's dead easy mate!

Save yourself 50 quid or so and do it yourself!!

easy to install yourself. I hope Paul doesn't mind me stealing his picture :)

Right look for the blow off valve here :

Basically underneath the Bov is a 10mm bolt. Undo this and the old bov comes off all you do is bolt your new bov in place (note : make sure you get the MR2 fitting kit when you buy the bov).

You will need to block the pipe coming off the old bov as well.

A friend of mine has a nissan 200sx, and one of the things that I do rather like about his car is the noise it makes when he eases off the throttle..

....it sort or goes Brrrr rrrrr rrrr rrr rrr rrr. Does sort of sound like a mad pigeon though, so may be the same as the above? Anyhow, it still makes a nice "whoosh" etc when he really boots is, it just tends to make the mad pigeon sound when just easing off lightly etc?

I think he has a baileys "piston" dump valve or something fitted. Would this have a similar effect to the hks ssqv? Or do the later 200sx's (his is an X reg) have something else on them that causes this? Just kinda like the noise, and was wondering what costs are involved.. ;)

if u have a rev1/2 steer clear of bailys, and make sure its a HKS SSQV or a blitz, I personaly have a HKS which is great, now the noise could be the HKS BOV or indeed an external wastgate, external wastegates make a great noise, im working on a OEM manifold that can have a external gate fitted, let me know if ur not happy with a vent to atmospher BOV and I will sort you a deal out!

Hi Dan,

Yep i'm in Dagenham. Near the chequers, where are you??

Merlin is right if you have a rev 1/2 the baileys Dump valve is not a good idea. I have a rev 2 and run an HKS ssqv, i've never had any problems (apart from the odd flame from the exhaust now and again  )

I do in fact have a rev3 turbo, so this won't be an issue. I was also just looking into what would be the likely cause of the noise and if it was possibly to replicate.

Financial decisions and sourcing will come much, much later... ;)

hey nutter,

i am in upminster...

do you think that the hks ssqv could be cause flames, cause my car always pops flames and is running the standerd BOV.

Cool :) You should come to the bluewater meets!

Well apparently any bov that vents to atmosphere can cause your car to run rich on the over run. I never noticed it before i fitted it !
