You could try your local motor factors, failing that. Does sound a little steep, I vaguelly remember a figure around £21-£25. AutoJapSpares quote £38 + the tax man. If you want I'll phone my local motor factors, they tend to do me trade price because I know them

Is the bore scored? If not you can just replace the internals, IIRC they're pretty reasonable even from MrT.

:-k just got a price of 37.95 + VAT from my friendly Factors, looks like they've gone up in price.

Limeys right though, you could get a new seal kit for it from MrT. Dont have any part Nos at the moment, laptop died last week, working from a new one :(

Brakes International do the slave cylinder I think:
http://www.brakesinternational.co.uk/

IIRC it was about £20-25 for the slave cylinder so cheaper than your other prices so far.

I was looking for a master cylinder though and you'll be hard pushed to find one of those in the UK for less than £100

Hi Chris
There is a MK1 being broken for parts in Ratby, if you want to try 2nd hand.

I found Parkers (Abbey Lane, Leicester) were great for customer service and getting me MK1 parts a v good prices. Give 'em a ring and see: 0116 2688000

Slave and master cylinders / clutch!

Post by Walt »

Hi fellas! This is my first post, only had my mk1 mr2 for two weeks! I've noticed that when leftfor a period, I have no clutch pedal resistance! Once I depress it once, it is ok again! The car drives ok but I can't help feeling this is only going to get worse so I need really to nip it in the bud! Is this a common fault? Does this sound familiar to any of you guys? I would really appreciate some advice if anyone can help! Thanks!.....Walt! :)

Firstly check the fluid levels, the clutch master cylider is in the front boot, in the middle of the car, if you still have the plastic cover over the pipework wiring etc, there is a viewing hole cutout, but its useless!

I would say you have some air in the system posibbly caused by dodgy cylinder seals. Although I've not experienced this symptom myself.

I had similar symptoms in my old Nissan and it was due to a leaky slave cylinder, but I was having to regularly top up the fluid.

I'd agree with Leigh that it's air in the system. Do you have a Haynes or BGB?

The slave cylinder is mounted on the rear right of the gearbox (topside), have a good feel around for leaks.
