Hi Guys.
Ive taken the paint back on my sills to find the spot welds on my rev2 jdm turbo mk2, anyone have a clue what size these are? as i need to order a spot weld drill bit to remove the sills and typically my calipers are broken and i dont have anyhing to measure them with.
cheers
Ross.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Spot weld - what size drillbit
I bought 6mm and 8mm. I think I used the 8mm to drill the welds on the sill.

If your looking to weld the new outer seal back on with puddle weld etc you would really need a spot weld drill bit, still 8mm but has a flat tip so you dont go through the panel behind.
cant say i have done the seals on mr2 but used a normal drill bit on my mx5 and stuffed it right up.
just my 2p but hope its helpful
scrap that just read thats what you were ordering

Hey Ross, you could use a spot weld drill bit but what you really need is a spot weld drill bit, otherwise you will drill through panel behind. I know you said you were going to get a spot weld drill bit, but I would recommend a spot weld drill bit instead.

It's worth repeating, at least. There's not much worse in life than having holes where there's no need for them.

Especially in your outer seal

If that's your outer seal rob I'd hate to see your inner seal

Once you have your sill ready to weld on you can drill the hole in it off the car with a normal 6mm bit (a pillar drill makes this super quick).
I think 6mm is better for the new plug welds.

thanks mate, good to know. I've got a decent selection of bits, just not one to remove the spot welds. hopefully i can tackle this all the weekend.

Slow and steady when drilling them out. 8mm is just a fraction too small and a lot of the time you'll be left with slither of metal outside the cut of the bit, I created a sacrificial knife like tool that can slide between the sheet to pop them apart (little persuasion with a hammer for some of them). Have fun, very satisfying job.

I forgot to say
Use a slow drill speed and spray some cutting fluid or we on the bit each time.
