What engine am i?

Post by boosch »

just entered into the mr2 world with a shiney black non turbo import. its on a J plate so 1991 or 1992. didnt get a huge deal of info with it so i was wondering if someone could tell me how to find the engine type, is it the gte? was too nervous to go for turbo version, as its my first rear wheeler.cheers.jb

Im not too hot on the early revs but if yours is a non turbo it would be a 3SGE, the GTE is the turbo engine

I think yours will prob be the rev 2 NA which was 158 bhp(but im not too sure)

If anyone else wants to shed some light please do, I might be wrong!! #-o
Don't think-feel; it is like a finger pointing to the moon, do not concentrate on the finger or you will miss all that heavenly glory........

Sounds about right to me.
I think it was only the early rev1's that had the weak as hell FE engine. (About 120 bhp)

The 3S-FE was available at the same time as the 3S-GE car, but yes, that was a rev1 only.

boosch you have the 3S-GE, 158bhp, 0-60 in 7.2 seconds.

Have a look on the timing belt cover, ( big cover at right hand side of motor) it has a sticker on the side saying what type of engine it is. If its a FE it wont have a spoiler, unless an after market one has been put on.
