Great vid.
We are probably a bit biased but the mr2 really is a lovely looking motor...yours just proves it.

Looks like its got some great power too and ML seemed impressed too

Monky London MR2 Turbo Review

Post by JLW »

Hi Guy's

I'm sure a few of you have seen already, but here it is.
ML loved the car, funny how much filming goes into a 12 minute
video once edited. Had a great day and glad the video came out well.

Yep mr2s did come with leather door cards, UK ones did.
Actuator pressure is 0.5bar assuming you have an oem actuator.
Oh and stock, 241bhp, 245ps

Hi Bud

Yeah as soon as we finished the video I realised i had called them "Cusco"
but have known they are "Toms" since the day I bought the car lol.
Guess the camera on me made me a little nervous and forgetful lol.

regarding the "Actuator" thing, I was simply paraphrasing Walton Smith
when he advised how he mapped it. not sure if its OEM or not ?

i can imagine with a camera stuck in your face, its easy to forget or say something you realise maybe wrong.
me, id probably waffle on for hours about the same stuff and repeat myself, ha.

if you run a stock 20b, its highly likely you run a stock actuator, which is 0.5bar.

i do wonder though if your referring to boost based on throttle position or revs??
personally i dont see the point of the 3/4 throttle boost control, because this isnt an NA, if you have load, you will build boost, trying to control boost based on throttle position is madness to me.

either run low boost or high boost at full throttle, control your right foot or boost controller, :-)

im either cruise or full throttle, not much inbetween.

i CAN understand boost based on revs though, but not throttle position.

either way, launch control looks fun!
shame you never got to test the car on the strip...

Its definitely based on throttle position, not rev's. To be honest I really
like it this way, find it easier to modulate when you want full boost.

So as a few of you will know the engine went pop, During the end of the day's
filming for the Monky London video I noticed white smoke emitting from the
Engine lid when letting of, under load and mainly during a hard pull.

Now this gives me the prime opportunity to go with a Forged engine build,
and after much research and help from all the guys on here:

http://www.imoc.co.uk/forums/viewtopic. ... highlight=

I have decided to go with YVS performance, Simon there has been incredibly
helpful and advised exactly whats needed over the phone. He's also been the
best price which for a person that many hold in high esteem makes me feel
like he's the man for the job.

Im aiming to get the car taken up there this Sunday, with a little help of
the AA

Sorry to hear about the engine dude, not the first time I've heard of something going pop with them filming, hopefully just a coincidence more than anything

YVS have built some awesome cars so I'm sure you're in good hands there :thumleft:

Cheers mate, it is what it is. As others have said it's not a case of if , it's when. At least I know that the engine will be solid to build more performance on top of.

And look here , my own private courier to PVS performance
 , 5 hour drive for the guy, and saved me £300 thanks AA lol.

Being delivered to Simon at YVS as I type this.

Small update: Car was delivered already to YVS this morning,
and Simon had a quick look at the engine to get an idea on what we are dealing with.
Then sent an photo of these plugs !

Image

As you can see there is quite a bit of plug missing on the right hand side one.
I asked my pal who did the compression test if the plugs were put back into the cylinders he took them out from.
And he confirmed yes. Simon asked me to ask this as the damaged plug actually came from
cylinder 1 and not 3 which is the one that's dropped compression.
