MR2 PRICES.
What a hike in mr2 prices. Some turbo sellers are asking silly money for cars that are not that good been looking for one for a while and looked on ebay listings ended there is a most of the expensive ones not sold.Perhaps sellers are getting a bit gready.
Re: MR2 PRICES.
What in your opinion qualifies as silly money?
Re: MR2 PRICES.
Erm..
You realise people can sell anything for any price they like..
If you don't like.. then the best thing to do is...
moan and cry on an internet forum.

Oh I know I'm going to get told off for being combative. But threads like this annoy me.
If something is too expensive for you don't buy it. If everyone else agrees the seller either has to re-evaluate and sell for a lower price or keep it.

Re: MR2 PRICES.
I've been looking at MR2 prices since my car was written off a few weeks ago (it's a tin top so pretty rare already), and I've seen several on eBay going for decent prices, one is selling a Rev 3 for around £3.6k, another is selling a rev 2 for £2.4k (needs a respray apparently, not unusual for cars of that age). As Draven says it all depends on what you think is a good price. Personally I think they're beginning to rise in value and I would say an average price for a Turbo should be around £3 - £4k, they're not exactly common cars and finding one that hasn't been abused is even harder. It's a great car and worth spending a few quid getting a decent one - if I was looking I'd be happy to pay at least £4k for a good one, possibly stretching to more.
If treated well, the engines go on forever. Mine has now done 143,000, is on the original turbo - still pulls strongly and is on the original clutch. It has been driven hard at times but never recklessly and has covered a high proportion of motorway miles.
If you think that £3 - 4k is too much then it's probably not the car for you. Spending doesn't stop at the initial purchase, you do need to spend a few quid on ensuring they're well maintained, frequent oil changes, renewal of ignition parts (I've just spent around £300 on new ignition bits - plugs, leads, distributor cap, rotor arm, coil) so it's always good to have a float of money to make sure you keep up the servicing. If you do that, they will rarely let you down! There's also the matter of fuel economy. If I get more than 200 miles from a full talk I'm doing well. You can get more if you drive it like a granddad (sorry granddads, no offence intended) but then what's the point in that?

Re: MR2 PRICES.
I think the MR2 prices overshot on the way down anyway. I mean at one point people could pick up a rev 3 turbo for £1500! That was one hell of a bargain and I think unlikely to happen again.
But if you want to see really insane price increases take a look at the 996 turbos. Those were as cheap as £17-18K at one point. Now just a couple of years later everyone wants to sell them for £30-40K. Which is pretty insane as you can get the superior and far better looking 997 turbo for around £40K+
Now if you had been in the market for a 996 turbo the last couple of years then you'd have something to moan about I think

Supply and demand .. dont hate the system
Re: MR2 PRICES.
When I bought my Rev 2 Turbo (with 19k miles on the clock) back in 1998 it cost a cool £8.2k, which would be £13.5k today's money! £4k therefore really is a bargain!
I think the values will rise. Interestingly over the last 15 or so years, Twin Turbo MK4 Supras have only grown in value, around 10k in 98 now anything from 10 to 18k. I would love one but alas I don't have enough space or more importantly cash right now. I think those really will be worth a lot in years to come.

Seen a couple of immaculate Rev 1s recently on eBay, both the most expensive NA MR2s I've ever seen. One with 30 something thousand miles- just under £8k, the other with just 6 thousand miles- just under £18k... Will be interesting to see what they go for in the end.

The beginning of 'classic' MR2S?
I hope so

Re: MR2 PRICES.
Peronally I think that even 5k is a bargain for what the MR2 is
It'll give pretty much anything a run for its money with just a few bolt-ons, is cheap to maintain and source parts for, reliable, relative exclusivity, massive fun to drive, looks ace etc. etc.
What else is in the 5k bracket these days? JDM hot hatches (Glanza, Pulsar, Civics etc.), a tired Scooby WRX, battered/rusty S-body, DC2, maybe a Golf GTI mk4 (I can't be bothered to check). Most are FWD and meh.
I know I'd rather have a 300bhp mid-engined toy than any of those (although the DC2 is a beast)!
Everything is on the up now so why shouldn't the MR2 follow?

Re: MR2 PRICES.
I agree with CalMac, they're still a bargain for what they are. Everytime I've bought one of my MR2's I've had to pay about £200-£300 more on average every year that goes by, but its just something you have to except.
I recently just sold my Integra DC2 for £4300 and I paid less than £3000 for it about 18 months ago so I think pretty much all 90's jap cars are just going up nowadays. Great if you already own one

Re: MR2 PRICES.
you should see the price of MK3&4 Escort Xr3 & RS Turbos now.... they have shot up in price over the past year or so.
R5 GTTs & 205GTis are heading the same way. Seems to be a bit of a 80s/90s hot hatch Renaissance right now
Make hay while the sun shines!

I sold an RS1600i 3 years ago.
I currently have a S2 RST, albeit in boxes. That one is going nowhere for the forseable.

Those ones are a good source for a laugh. Must be some sort of tax write off or maybe someone who is just a bit delusional.
There is a nice looking blue rev5 for a top end price around thats been for sale for a while, he did drop his price for a bit but seems to have had his expectations raised by the '2016' rev4 (does say its a 1997 to the sellers credit) Ha, just as I write I see the cosmos blue rev5 turbo is not longer on auto trader - hopefully if it's sold if is staying in the UK.
I would have said the seller was asking too much, but if it has now sold he obviously wasn't!
Re: MR2 PRICES.
^^ no no, it's still there. Must have had my search set to something odd. Nice car, too much monies IMHO.
(until some kraut rolls in with the right euros and take it away forever, and I whinge about it)

Re: MR2 PRICES.
Escort Cosworth prices have shot since I last looked a few years ago
MR2's will eventually go up, as the supply dwindles.

Re: MR2 PRICES.
Lots of older performance cars hit a ridiculous limit them peak a few years later...
Cars I considered buying in the past include an e46 m3, around 6k a year ago, now up at 8 or 9k
Ford sierra cosworth, they were down at 2 k not to many years ago, now 15k
In fact much of the RS range hold there value very well, even evos are going up in price by a few k.
Was only a matter of time for the mr2 to follow suite...
6 Years ago a Ferrari 355 could be had for 25k, now they are going for double that, see a business opportunity here maybe , lol

It's knowing what is going to make the best money and having the cash to invest at the right time that's the problem. Also storage space
