1999 key fob distance?!?

Post by MR2Kyle »

Delighted to now have a key fob for my car since my last mr2 didn't have one. But anyhow I might as well not use the fob since the range is so poor that sometimes it doesnt pick it up at all and I'm left standing like a spare willy beside my car

If anyone has any info on how to increase the distance it would be well appreciated :thumleft:

Do a "Top Gear" and put the fob to your temple, it actually works for me! \:D/

my rev4 has a short range but not that short. noramlly have to be near the back wheel at least for it to work. still easier than putting a key in a hole.

the topgear trick does indeed extend the range, only by a couple of meters though.

The range really depends on which side of the car you are standing, the receiver is just above the vent next to the drivers seat. I "modified" mine to make it go further. You can install a little extension aerial on it to improve the distance.

failing that replace it with a proper alarm

Search on here, it's a very common problem with the TVSS-IIIB ecu module.
They seriously degrade with age.

The TVSS-IIIB was fitted to UK rev4/5.

I wonder what it is that fails - caps maybe? Could be possible to repair.
