What's a decent price for my 2?

Hey folks,
Ran into some issues over here in ireland and it may force me to sell my recently aquired mk2 na in cosmos blue
She's a cracking car with only 73k on the clock and a rust free body! And I mean that as when I bought it I was looking for the cleanest one I could get so I could later have a 2gr-fe installed.
Anyway enough chatting what do you think is a decent price for the car? TOTALLY original with fsh from Toyota, only thing is that the passenger side has been resprayed...would guess due to it being keyed as there is no sign of crash damage but I'll let the photos speak for themselves so....how much?

Anyway, I'm sorry to hear about your issues. Now, as it happens, I've literally just been looking into prices for decent NA MR2s at essentially that exact mileage. This is because someone ran into my beautiful 72,000 mile '96/N TBar NA on Sunday, so I'm gathering evidence of its value so I can present a good case to the third party's insurance company. My intent is to avoid a write-off, but I'd tolerate a pay-out and buying back the car. However, I digress... here is a list every sub 100k NA SW20 on pistonheads:

Spot the trend? Of course, asking prices aren't the whole story. You can ask til you're blue in the face, but if noone buys at that price then it's irrelevant. You need to know cars are actually selling at these prices. Well, this advert from June last year was posted by a very good friend of mine:

I know what that car sold for and it was not very far below the £3450 asking price.

You can make your own decision, based on your car's spec and circumstances but having literally just compiled this list I figured it would be of use to you too.

Hmmm that's very interesting indeed! Thanks for taking the time to post up a reply! Giving the year and condition of the car I might look into advertising it at around £3600.... Food for thought definetly!
Also the alloys came refurb end and look like new so I just thought I would leave them on it

Honestly I think a set of rev 5 alloys would raise the price. Rev 2 alloys do of course suit the car but are a noticeable downgrade from the rev 5 light weight alloys, which match the spoiler/colour/rev of the car.

Prices for the mk2 seem to be on the rise at the moment. With summer just around the corner it helps too.

I agree. Generally people who want a rev5 know what's different about a rev5 and will be expecting the newer wheels. Doesn't make the car un-sellable as-is though.

Very true. Supply is noticeably reducing too, presumably because people are holding on to the good ones, plus a large number being crashed or broken. howmanyleft.co.uk suggests there are half that number of mk2s on the road compared to 5 years ago!

I have been watching the rev5 prices for quite a while, and to use the annoying cliche 'it's worth what someone is prepared to pay for it'

The prices have been all over the place, I saw a a w reg rev5 all original sell for 850, that went very quickly. But more realistically I saw a v reg rev5 that looked just like yours with the earlier wheels sell for 2000.

I bought my rev5 a couple of years ago for 2500, totally stock with low miles. If you wanted to hold out and find the right buyer you could get over 3000, but don't hold your breath. There's a few for sale at the money you are thinking, they must be selling as well as the ads do eventually disappear.

Being a sunroof model you may find it harder to sell, many first time mr2 buyers insist on t-tops. Others like me got annoyed with leaks and only want hardtops or sunroof models.

But like the others have said, whack a set of rev5 wheels on it and that will increase it's appeal to purists.

Car looks beautiful, steering wheel Rev 4 but T reg would cover Sept 1998 to Sept 1999 which may include Rev4/5.
Value h'mm my MR2 Turbo Rev 5 genuine 3SGTE twin airbag model is also a cosmos blue tintop with 42,000mls i am the first UK owner back in 2003 with one previous Japanese owner. Good luck with your sale shame you are selling looks a great car a smile a mile.

Only JDM rev5s had the slimmer, gen7-celica-like steering wheels. UK rev5s had the same airbag steering wheel as the rev4... or at least all three of mine did!

This was my S-reg rev5, but my W-reg and my R-reg were both the same:



I think I've had rev5s both with and without the red stitching on the wheel though.

T reg would cover Sept 1998 to Sept 1999 which may include Rev4/5.

T-reg was March '99 to Aug '99 (they started doing bi-annual from S-reg onwards). rev5s are late '97 onward, so a '99 car wouldn't normally be close to any crossover unless its registration was somewhat delayed.

Hi now on my 2nd mr2 first one rev2 tee top yellow was ok but always felt little under powered so any way when last year looked for another one and shopping list was rev 3 plus and tee tops colour silver sonic , cosmos blue , or green but after long search spotted rev 5 silver sonic with factory sun roof and mileage of 74000 with fair bit of history and low owners and not exactly my first preference but plus side out weighed no tee tops and now a year on with 84000 on clock and note its outside all year and daily driver nips up down country at weekends to watch racing, only changes are wheels ( Looks better and drives it as well ) so the value to think of sellingl be around £2500 picture in my garage on here but alas no idea to big one on here oh forgot its a 1999 V reg
