Dying Grey Interior

Post by androo007 »

Any tried something like below?

https://www.fabricspray.co.uk/product-c ... swatch=105

Don't see why it wouldnt be very easy to do.... and save a fortune paying for black interiors!

not even a bodge..... would be a solid, reliable and professional finish

Yeah, there must be other brands available. Intrigued why no one else would have done it! Would be even better than original black ones are now....

Been thinking about it a fair bit as every time I see the front of the car there is this ugly grey flap hanging down next to the black mirror. Think the tbar blinds would be better in black too.

Might have a word with my sister-in-law as she is a professional costume designer so should have some ideas.

Any body else see that episode of wheeler dealers where Mike has a car with a grey parcel shelf, so he gets a can of matt black car paint and sprays it! :thumleft: Brilliant! :thumleft:

It looked alright to be fair, he said him and his dodgy 2nd hand car dealer mates used to do it all the time.

Be worth some one with access to an old scrapper car to do an experiment on.

Trip down to the local breakers maybe with a tin of pound shop black matt :-k

I want to do this with my grey headlining and trim as it looks grubby .

I saw that last week, I was just going to suggest it too :thumleft:

Another alternative might be leather dye!
Its a dye rather than paint and can be airbrushed on

To be honest i reckon any old black dye would do, long as its the sort you can just leave on and you dont have to wash out.

There are some dyes on ebay that you can just leave to air dry.

Maybe apply it carefully with a small kitchen type sponge thingy.
And not the green hairy side

I used some leather paint i had left from my seats for the visors and I also sprayed my light black too. I used standard car paint for the tbar things too.

It's not great but does the job.

How about some of this? Found it yesterday for this very reason but haven't tried it:

I have used this on plastic but it is more like paint and comes off eventually. I have used it on some suede boots for the missus and it worked but was a little stiff following. Hit it which a soft suede brush and it was all good

after doing a lot of readinf on many different forums etc.
The general consensus was dont do it re trim.

But

That all depends how much you want to spend, how long your keeping the car or if you just want to make it look tidier for a quick sale.

However.
As your headlining is probably nylon/synthetic based, after a bit of hunting/research i found that the stuff you want/need is acid fabric dye.
Loads of it about if you google.

Main prob is ideally if you use it you soak stuff in it at a high temp and then dry it in a tumble dryer to help set it.
So as an alternative to a tumble drying maybe you could get away with setting it with your missus hair dryer? :-$
