OSF KNOCK! Doing my nut in!

Post by kurkjones »

OFF-SIDE FRONT KNOCK. - items replaced so far...
1. Drop link.
2. New shocker and strut assembly
3. Buckled wheel replaced with new.
4. New top mount bearing.

Any other ideas what could be the problem?

It's done it since I picked the car up in September as is getting gradually worse. It seems to only happen over rough terrain, like small bumps consistently for a period of time. Rough road surface etc.

I'm thinking it could be a bush? Perhaps the spring? (Had a tein Spring on, and stock, but both never cured the knock).

had a knock for ages but mine turned out to be spring cup rubbers

i changed
shocks
topmounts
arb bushes
drop links
ball joints
poly bushed whole front

turned out to cheap bit of rubber, not saying yours is but mine def worked
If you see an MR2 with a raised engine cover, the bottom line is it's probably faster than your car.

Sounds like it could be a bush. Have you checked the suspension mounting brackets. They are a known weak area on early cars. E.g: http://www.imoc.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=101626

get a lever in there and check for play in the bushes, do the same for the ball joint.
ARB bush is a good shout as the others have said.

Arb bush or even the mounting point for the bracket. Wouldn't be the first to rot out there. I had to graft in an off cut from a donor into the chassis leg, though wrapping in thick plate would have worked but not as oe

Thanks for the replies.
Jacked car up today and looked for play by rocking wheel side-to-side and up-and-down, up-and-down had huge play and then after a process of elimination and testing with a big metal pole its the ball joint. Hopefully that's the only problem and sorts it!

Just a question too, has anyone Polybushed their front ARB, and if so do you feel the benefits? Thanks.

You'll notice a different if your existing one is worn.
