Tyre choices?
Yo peeps,
So its new tyre time and I'm deliberating between 3 possibilities:
Hankook Ventus V12 Evo
Bridgestone Potenza Adrenaline
Uniroyal Rainsport 3
Sizes are 205/50/15
Anyone with personal experience with these?
Thanks

Re: Tyre choices?
I haven't tried the other 2 but I love the uniroyals.
I put all 4 on my Saab 93 and it transformed the handling. I then put them on the front of my 2 as I needed new fronts and they are showing up the kuhmos on the rear even tho the kuhmos are B rated wet grip.
I even then put Uniroyal rain expert on my panda and the has vastly improved its handling.
I have found that I need to run them at slightly higher psi than standard to get the feel I like.

Re: Tyre choices?
Oh and are you buying from Camskill. They are very competitive on the uniroyals
Re: Tyre choices?
Wish we could get Uniroyal Rainsports in New Zealand
In stock sizes we have the option of Toyos and budget and Eco tyres

Re: Tyre choices?
rainsports are excellent tyres, I've had the old rainsport 2 and the rainsport 3 on a couple of cars and they're great, never tried the other two though.

Awesome consistent opinion!
Thanks very much for the replies, any idea on wear? How many miles you getting out a set of rears?
Cheers again

Re: Tyre choices?
Also liking the rainsports I have on mine.
Rev1 Tubby, Garrett GT3071R, Motec M4 EMS, 880cc delphis, Rev3 turbo port polished built head/cams/titanium retainers, shim under buckets, HD springs, etc., rear bumper mounted intercooler, and vanilla air freshener.
Re: Tyre choices?
What are you going to put on the rear though? That's the big issue on stock 15's on a Mk2.

Re: Tyre choices?
Well I was considering going 205 on the back and 195 on the front. I know that narrower than I'd want but the only other option is 225 T1-R's on the back at £85 a tyre and they don't seem to last very long.

Re: Tyre choices?
I looked on mytyres and apparently you can get AD048 in std 225/50/15 but apart from that there realy is bu88er all selection nowadays for the std wheels.

Re: Tyre choices?
I recommend Hankook Ventus V12 Evo 2
Had them on the back of my old MR2 and they were great, good value for money too!

Re: Tyre choices?
I quite like Rainsport 2's and 3's in 17" but they are definitely soft. Don't think I'd like them on stock wheels.

Thanks for the insight Fred.
What do you mean by soft? Soft compound so quick wearing, or soft side walled so wallowy on the road?
Thanks again

Soft sidewalls so they squish around a bit. Stock size uses a tallish profile which will allow them to move even more. Not too much of an issue to most owners I think but I prefer the car to feel firm.

Rev3GtTurbo - I've got a Rev 3 Turbo at 250whp, I think they lasted about sub 5,000 miles.
Willenium - Yeah I know what you mean, I'm running B6 shocks and Tein springs so I need something squishy lol

Fair enough I'm always seeing posts in various places about people buying coilovers and then running them really soft so that it rides like stock. Makes me wonder why they bothered in the first place lol. I'm running 17" wheels and 5/8kg BC's on mine at 29 clicks which should be fine but I need to look at more aggressive geometry I think. The Dino settings have made the car behave more like a stock setup which isn't to my personal taste.
Anyhow, I've gone off on a tangent. If you're going to opt for Rainsport's on close to stock sizes I would recommend running a higher pressure so they don't deform as much in use
Re: Tyre choices?
Uniroyal Rainsport 3s are awesome tyres. Much better if a full set but very difficult with 15" wheels. My car feels plenty firm enough with 50 profile and lowering springs. Best tyres I've used for the money.
I reckon you need a full set with nice Enkei RP01 16" wheels

Re: Tyre choices?
That's interesting Willenium as my plan was get the tyres and straight after go and get the geo set to Dino's settings, but if they make it feel stock I might have to go for something else.
Thanks for the info Stu, lol I don't need any more wheels!
