Garage hours official for an engine change

As above, how long should it take by the book and what price would you lot be expecting to pay for a local mechanic to do it.

IMO ten hours would be fair if they hadn't done an engine swap before. I can only assume here this is to pull out an engine, then replace it with another identical working engine?

Four hours out and four hours back in. Give them two hours to replace belts and water pump and a few seals/gaskets while the engine is on the floor.

A specialist in MR2's will be undoubtedly faster.

Back street garages I've found to be between £50-£70 an hour, dealers probably about double that

If its like for like swap the 10 hours should have it cracked. These cars are around 20 years old now so the odd broken bolt etc can be expected, that can add extra time to the bill. If you have to swap over manifolds injectors etc (short engine) then prob a couple of hours more. Possible new clutch, thermostat, gaskets etc, it all adds up.

Thats a bargain. You'd be looking at more like £500+
