Nothing to do with weight saving (although its a bonus). The stock boot spring is way to powerful for a carbon boot lid with no spoiler, hence its removal.
Even on a stock metal boot lid, removing the spoiler requires a 3SFE boot spring to stop the boot flying up on releasing the catch.

i can confirm the lid flys up with no spoiler !!

Did not know that .. i ran spoiler less .. glad i didnt have this problem
