[Mk2] [Turbo] TD05 16H onto 3SGTE Rev2 Manifold

Post by v1xz »

As title suggest's, im looking for someone who is the bees knees and knows about how i could achieve installing this TD05 turbo to my 2.

Would there be a flow problem from the round turbo outlet to the manifold section's?
Would it be an idea to grind back the centre section of manifold a few mm or would that cause problems too?

Any help would be much appreciated

you'll need a custom made adapter plate.. any engineering place could knock one up if you took them both parts, or supplied a drawing.

may I ask why you want to fit that turbo? it's a TD05h-16g isn't it? from an old impreza STi - no better than a CT20b really, and if you're going to the effort of adapter plates, custom downpipe etc it may be worth considering an upgrade like a gt28, HX30, T3/T4 etc

also, the casting of that compressor housing doesn't led it's self to an MR2 engine bay, you'll struggle to get an air filter on it and the charge pipework connected up which ever way you clock the housing

That my friend is the perfect kind of answer i was looking for.........
This turbo has been sat around and i thought id make some use of it.
I have already been to engineering shop and was advised to find out if the airflow would be restricted.

Ill get rid and look for a ct20/hybrid.

You will also need to change engine parts, ecu etc if you are going to fit a bigger turbo and want more power.

The stock engine as is runs under the control of the knock sensor, so just upping the boost can give lots of problems like blown head gaskets and broken pistons

I'm already building another 3SGTE which is another story.

My car is currently stock and wanted to get rid of the CT26 due to it power loss after 5800rpm.
My thought process was to have TD05 mounted to manifold and downpipe made from engineer company. Only wanted to increase it to 1bar, don't wanna stress the oem internals now do we...

Everyone else I know is running de-cat's, charge cooler's, CT20B's, CT9 with more boost (starlet)
But me - stock O:)

Time for change

Lots of effort for bu88er all gain on that turbo.

Fit a ct20b and enjoy life.
