Lighten up Peter.

If you worked in my office you'd find out what abuse was and Paul has not abused you.

I think that more than enough has been said on this thread Alex

I know the answer to my original question now

There is no Club conventional method for torqueing a dizzy

It seems that I may possibly be the only member who does that

So I shall say nothing more about it on here :)

Yes it is until the aluminium threaded hole it goes into strips its thread because the bolt was over tightened then it becomes a total PITA.
If it is under tightened you risk a loose distributor and possible random ignition timing with potential for engine damage.
No reason not to set the correct torque on the bolts, plenty of reasons not to set it correctly.
If the OP wants to torque the bolts and asks about a tool to do it, why not just answer that question if you can, if you can't, don't reply. I'm sure he knows that it is possible to 'just nip up the bolts'

I did answer correctly, my Snap on £400 angled digital torque wrench fits perfectly in situ and allows them to be torqued, i also gave a method for doing it with a spanner and hanging scale which would be incredibly easy.

Neither were acceptable.

By the way, to strip the ally threads would take a force of well over 80nm, well beyond the torque you could achieve with a spanner.

This thread is ridiculous, only someone completely clueless would over or under tighten it, but hey i guess that is why the BGB has it listed, to make it idiot proof. :thumleft:

It's an 8mm socket IIRC.

Unplug leads, undo the two bolts. Take dizzy cap off. Pull rotor arm off. Put new one on, replace cap and do up bolts reconnected HT Leads which are numbered on the cap.

Pretty easy job really.

I used the ring end of an 8mm open-ended & ring spanner to remove the two little setscrews that hold the cap Trunks

Not too difficult considering the relative lack of space around the dizzy on a Mk1 :)
