Yeah Tonis 10 year build at £50/hour takes some beating :D

I have an obscene amount of money in this car now, even before any labour is accounted for.

Ok so i still have work to do to the period gauge pod but i thought i'd wire up the gauges and throw them in there just to see it all working, i'm pretty happy with it and it will blend into the dash once vinyl covered.

I've also modified my steering cowl further by including my shift-i light gauge into it, still needs a lot of work, this is just the basic stage.

It makes the boost gauge pod more part of the cowling now, i like it.

The beauty of using Torque App and having the ability to look at individual PIDs from the ECU means i can monitor fuelling very easily and help diagnose problems, unfortunately my LC1 wideband is being an a$$hole right now so i need to find out why it is doing that.

I sorted the wideband issue, the sensor needed calibrating in free air.

I've put a bit of time into this one, a digital gear indicator, made with a combo of micro switches, clever wiring and an LED display.

I have a problem with the display in that it won't produce a 6 don't ask, it's complicated! However i got it working with "O" as the 6th speed, which stands for Overdrive :D .... it just does ok.

This is the microswitch arrangement, it took hours to set this up...

The display fits neatly between the wiper and foglight....

A video of it working, it reacts instantly to the gear selected, i've had units before that worked out gears via RPM and speed, but they were crap compared to this.

Overall i'm pretty happy with it, still a lot of dash finishing off to do.

Gear indicator

Post by DNOS808 »

That is a really great mod. I am tempted to have a go at making one of these myself once I have fitted my chargecooler and done all of the 1001 other jobs!

I wonder if it would be possible to have a grid of six LEDs representing the six gears/selector positions and have them light up as each gear is elected. Perhaps the six LEDs could be mounted on a plate with the gear position diagram printed on it.

Yes that is just as easy as this to be honest, but i don't get why you'd want separate LEDs when this little unit will display the actual number for you which is way cooler.

It costs a few quid, has one ignition supply and six earth grounds to light up each digit, so all you need to do is earth each gear with a microswitch.

This is the unit i used.... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Red-LED-Unive ... 3f28c89139

Looking forward to seeing the car at jae this year, the work that has gone into this is outstanding! The detail in the centre caps alone shows what a perfectionist you are. Fantastic car!

Well I haven't put all my invoices on IMOC :eye:
But I sympathise with the cost of modding, I've easily got £10k in parts in the engine alone....it ain't cheap to do something special. And labour is not half of it, quality parts cost! As I am sure you know Paul :)

Looking good, they might meet up at JAE this year!

Bringing this epic build to a close now, it's nearly time to say goodbye to perhaps the best modified Mk1 on earth..... and boy am i going to miss her.

I've refreshed the paintwork, finished my engine lid and ticked off all of the final jobs i've been meaning to do, so here she is in her final glory, pretty soon she will be someone elses pride and joy, a car collector who i know is going to look after her.

The spec of this car is absolutely huge, from the enormous supercharged 2gr, it's Scion 6 speed right down to tiny alterations in the cars bodywork that are so subtle many don't notice, i've put my heart and soul into it and took an agonizing 6 months to decide to part with it at all, but it is the right time for her to go.

I will probably build another extreme Mk1 at some point, it's been quite a journey, i hope you chaps have enjoyed following the build.

For now some final shots before she goes to a private collector.
