[Mk2] [Generic] Need a constant live for trickle charger

Got a solar trickle charger for my mr2, comes with cig lighter attachment, but obv cig lighter turns off with ignition.

Can't decide whether i should convert cog lighter to constant live, or run new (fused) cable through bulkhead to batt and connect charger to that.

Any opinions to help me decide?

I have fitted a cigarette lighter socket at the join in the cable that travels from alternator to engine bay fusebox then down passenger side of the car to the battery. It is in the passenger footwell, just need a 10mm spanner to undo the nut and put a ring connector on.
