First MR2 I've seen without a sunroof

Post by Tiger Tim »

Hi all,

Spotted this MK1A for sale in Ireland. Only one I've ever seen without a sunroof. Must be an early MK1A. Left hand drive.

Yep, all UK mk1a's were sunrof equipped. Shame it's in such a state really, could have been an interesting project for someone.

Pics are very poor. Hard to know how rough it really is. For that price its probably not great.

It might not be to bad, the front wing looks solid, also with it not have a leaky tbar or sunroof drains that lead into the chassis it might be more solid than most.

The French mk1 is a rare beastie, it's also the lightest mk1 you'll find. They never sold the mk1 in France officially, it's incredibly difficult to even register a mk1 in France. My dad did it but with a UK spec mk1b, it took him 18 months, go to the international section of imoc and read his post in the France section.

Not wishing to be pedantic, but the weight saving over a sunroof model is negligible in the scheme of things.

The MK1 is a comparatively heavy car to start with. I guess being LHD reduces it's value too.

To put it into perspective I bought an early MK1a for £350 in better condition than that one. Yes, sure it's in Euros so cheaper and even though I bought my one ten years ago, prices certainly haven't increased, so it makes this car look expensive IMO.

Have a look here Kev: https://www.vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/

I guess it doesn't have the plate that's in your garage pic anymore.

Hi , prices have gone up and 350 wouldn't get you a engine anymore , expect to pay well over 3000 for a good mk1 and over 5000 for a low mileage minter . One sold for over 5 grand last week with 60000 on the clock . 250 pounds is nothing for this car .

That's interesting Gary :)

Some folk are passionate about tin top Mk1s

Ollie said that he has two

One that he's using & one "tucked away for a rainy day"

Well, it's certainly good to know that MK1 prices have stabilised, if indeed that is the case. Definitely a move in the right direction. :+:
