i have a lot to do.. first sprint is snetterton 29th march. :thumleft:

Have all the dates been released Pete?

I still hold a flicker of a hope that I will be ready to join TSS in A-Pro this year, but it might be another year of just doing trackdays in 2015 :(
January 2014
..the only thing I can promise for sure is slow progress.

May 2015
just have this niggling thought that if I rip out the wiring, then the car will never get out of the garage again.

Still in the garage...

Well with the start date fast approaching and the bathroom i have been doing is now usable, time for zombie to go on its diet..
and today went very well.. if not a little wet and cold..

I did have a list of jobs that needed doing but it was on a white board and during the week the shed door flew open and water wiped the white board ](*,) ](*,) ](*,)

anyways to see how much can loose from the car i am going to weigh whatever i can that i take off.. (Phil will love this)

one thing i wanted to know was wheels.. i have 3 sets. standard 15's, a set of momo 16's and my advans.
with new tires on the horizon though it was best to see which set would be the lightest

First up the Standards
Image

17.62Kg

then the Momos
Image

19.01Kg

And the Advans..
Image

16.78Kg

The Advans are defiantly the lightest so weight saving there over standard to start with..

here is the beast before we start..
Image

and kels got me some new axle stands. she's good to me
Image

removed all the boot carpet etc, ariel, boot spring, and bracket holding them
Image
Image

also off with rear bumper and removed the polystyrene insert, rear bar, and the exhaust grate thingy.. also removed the exhaust heat shield while i was there
Image
Image
Image

Anything that was cut or starting to rust has been painted black or silver depending where it was

then off with the webbing on the inside of the boot and all lock mechanism and bits holding all that on..
Image

all back together
Image

then onto the bonnet, i am breaking a black mk2 so thought i would use the black bonnet from that.
Again cut all the webbing out,it now very flexible. fitted all good and just need to fit bonnet pins..
Image
Image
Image
Image

Weight loss so far from standard..

Wheels 3.36 kg
random removed bolts 0.10 kg
exhaust heat shield 2.16 kg
boot webbing 2.48 kg
rear bar 3.74 kg
random bits cut off 1.36 kg
boot spring 0.97 kg
ariel 1.01 kg
Boot carpet and trim 3.95 kg
bonnet webbing 5.94 kg
under bonnet lock and plastic 1.09 kg

so total today is 26.16 kg

not bad for starters...

more tomorrow

also got these
Image
for the mothership, LED ones and kel said in dark mine are not very bright so these should sort that :thumleft:

Image

Image
Image
Image

what came out
Image

all thats going back in (plus seat)
Image

weighing it all in
Image

started to remove the sound stuff
Image

weights today..

old seats 29.36 kg
heater bits 2.73 kg
seatbelts 2.07 kg
floor carpets 2.98 kg
rear carpet 5.12 kg
roof carpet 1.15 kg
misc plastic stuff 15.02 kg

the new seat going in and hrness weighs in at 12.21 kg

Great effort!! Such a familiar series of pictures...

One potential issue- have you taken all the internal webbing off the inside of the bonnet? Difficult to see in the pictures...

If so you will find that at anything over 20-30mph the front edge starts to lift and the whole bonnet arches up like a wind tunnel.

Either put the front most bar of the webbing back (not so easy!), or you'll need some bonnet catches right at the front edge to hold it down.

I did the same to my old track car and ended up taping the leading edge down the whole time...the first time I drove it without I nearly lost the bonnet, luckily the bonnet pins I used were properly secure!

Good idea- looking forwards to seeing how you get on- these cars are tranformed once you get the weight out of them 8)

Are you going to put a roll cage in? It is extra weight, but it makes a real difference by helping to stiffen up the chassis...

busy day again.. cracking on..

worst job in the world!!!
getting all the sound deadening up.. but once in a black bag.. eah was defiantly a job worth doing

Image
Image

also got the rest of the heater matrix out, meaning when ever i drop the fuel tank i can get the pipes out then too]
but behind the dash is looking a lot clearer, ready to get the dash back on
Image
Image

and cleared all the stuff out from behind the dash so thats ready too
Image

last off was the big one.. get rid of the heavy sunroof and tub..
Image
Image

tomorrow ill be cutting a old white bonnet and covering the hole..

so todays weights..

sunroof 7.56 kg
sunroof tub 4.21 kg
odd plastics etc 3.63 kg
floor sound deadening 6.83 kg
heater matrix 3.02 kg
Behind the dash carpet 1.85 kg

Total 27.10
