MR2 locking wheel nuts - no key

Post by daviefoster9773 »

Long shot, but do they have locknuts as standard. And if not, I am hoping someone can tell me what make they are if I post a photo. Guy who sold me car is not returning my messages now. If he cant find it, all he needs to do is tell me where he got them from Jees lol :/.

I don't think they had locknuts as standard but could easily be wrong about that.
Post a pic, someone might recognise them, if they're the same as mine I'll post you the key & you can return it after... failing that a garage should be able to get them off for you.

yes they do, or at least my rev2 did, my mum and dad both had rav4s at the time which both had the same lock nuts (albeit a slightly different shape) as my mr2 :thumleft:

I believe they had 3 holes in them, and the socket required had 3 dowels to fit the holes.

Locking wheel nuts was a Toyota option, if you have stock wheels fitted they are more than likely Toyota ones.

If you can't find a key, you can get a special socket designed to remove lock nuts, they chew into the outside of the nut though so they'll be scrap once off, alternatively most tyre places will have one of these tools.

FYI i bought a set of these.. they are rubbish.. did nothing to remove my old locking wheel nut they just slip never tighten enough to get a grip. :?

Ended up just hammering an old socket on and undoing it like that. :thumleft:

You have aftermarket wheels so they won't be oem locknuts as mcguards can be supplied on new cars. The only way you can get replacement keys is if you have the code you get in the pack when new. Tighten the other four up tighter to take the strain off when trying to remove it  a small chisel and hammer works.
I have another set of these if you need them http://www.imoc.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=176936

well the inevitable happened and i got a puncture last night. haha.

Advice on tightening the 4 up to relieve the locknut of pressure was good advice. Slapped a socket over it, and off it came :) Sods law though :P
