[Mk2] [Turbo] sound deadening

Post by simpson_eh »

So thought I'd do my car doors to start with, 4 hours to do one door :( and 17 cuts later . I hate this idea lol.

I'm using silent coat panels for the doors with silents coat and closed cell foam for the floor ceiling and rear firewall.

I actually thought it would be a quick job maybe 6-8 hours for the whole car wow I was wrong

Yes, not a fast job especially in corners. I used Dynamat and it does the job but fitting it to the doors is a b1tch as it's tough worktrying to cover all the apertures and ensure the cables and bars can move freely.

Where did you get yours from?

EBay mate, was a nightmare . Finished both doors def a difference in the doors and just finished the rear firewall and behind the speakers in the rear

Not sure when I will get around to the floor and ceiling. I used 2mm silent coat and 9mm closed cell foam for the firewall

I bought an MR2 last year which was very noisy compared with my old MR2.
Engine seems to have gotten quieter with doing lots of miles (previous owner hardly used it).

I nearly got dynamat last year after I saw these vids http://www.dynamat.co.uk/videos but did not get around to it as I needed to spend the money on something else.

I always used stuff from car builder solutions (cheaper than named dynomat). Admittedly pulling off trim and putting it back is tedious -but well worth it, just use 2/3 layers on doors IMO.

The sound deadening pads which are around £30 I bought from someone off eBay as I thought they would come in handy for the smaller spaces.

I won them for £7 delivered \:D/
