Rev 3? Ecu options
I have a Rev 3 (I think) non standard engine that has never ran since coming in from Japan, the ecu had been removed from the car before it landed here. I know it's had some mods but as yet don't know exactly what. Do I buy a standard ecu which will/may be enough to hear it run and do some basic checks or do I buy an after market unit on the off chance it's a sweet motor running nice mods?
Thoughts?
Re: Rev 3? Ecu options
Yes I would start by plugging in a rev3 ecu to see if it runs... Obviously no guarantees, no idea whats been done to the car ..
The more pics you post the better we can help

Re: Rev 3? Ecu options
Check injectors are stock first before running it on a stock ecu.
Re: Rev 3? Ecu options
^^ This , I should of thought of that
Thats the thing, you've got to back engineer whats been done to the car to get it running.. not an easy feat buddy

Injectors are brown, not sure what they should be, there is an adjustable FPR also?
Engine mounts are TRD and the flywheel doesn't look standard, I can see a number of Allen bolt heads on the block side of it!
Thanks

Sure the injectors are not red?
Shouldn't take long to get fired up - the engine electrics in these cars are pretty basic by modern standards.
Short out B+ and FP - that should get the fuel pump running. Check for B+ at coil and ignitor.
Check for CEL with ECU plugged in and ignition on.
Crank engine and see if it fires.

If the repair is to costly I have the rev3 engine as a possible swap, but the condition is unknown.
I would not be fitting an engine of unknown condition.

Re: Rev 3? Ecu options
Crank and get oil pressure first with plugs out. Then start it.
Re: Rev 3? Ecu options
If the rev3 motor is going in ill at least compression/leak down test it, but other than an engine dyno I'll only know for sure if it's a goodin once it's in and running.
Fingers crossed the engine that's in is a relatively easy and cheap fix so I don't need to go as far as swaping over

If you re-pin it correctly i'm sure it would run.
Not sure why anyone over here would ever do that though.
