I've yet to drive a mr2 that doesn't get a squeaky alternator belt, adjust it up until it stops, it will eventually fail but it's a job you can do on the street :)

Yep thats what I did till it failed.. but it could be the belts on the way out .. swopping the alternator for a new one or reconditioned unit is a magor pain in the a$$..

Tbar seals are available from toyota, never plumbed in that boost controller but if it's a single solenoid there's only 1 of 2 ways it can go. So if you get it wrong you'll know :)

Indeed, I went to do it on my old one, saw the access and said 'xxxx that!'

Local garage did it for just under £200 supplied and fitted - not an OEM alternator though at that price, obviously!

That was a good deal .. I payed £140 for a reconditioned unit and fitted it my self .. NOT easy , trust me .. would never do it again if i had the £200 all in option =;

Jesus, changing an alternator isn't that hard!! It's an hour long job and fresh recons are about a hundred quid. Also much easier on an NA than a turbo as the alternator is smaller so there are more ways to get it out.

I needed it done ASAP, and after ringing around the local motor factors, the best price I got for an alternator was ~£130 or so. So on balance, I thought the job looks like it's probably an ar$e to do, and I can pay an extra £70 and get the garage sort it. And the work would be warrantied!

Yep, I can confirm you have a JDM rev 4 :thumleft: didn't look that way from the exterior. I'm however sure you're going to tidy that up in due course.

Good man. Tidy up the interior? There are a couple rips. All in due course. Rid of lexus. Got a Nur Spec R coming for it. New cooler and boost controller. Service soon as well so I know it is all top notch :). What oil is recommended on these? Ive 5l of miller 10/60 from when I had my subaru

Ideally 10W40 for our cars. Something like Mobil 1 or I am very much a fan of the Motul 300V. Pricey, but worth it.
