some more new parts for the suspension overhaul (new springs had already been fitted by Gary when the body work was done and the shocks seem okay to me)

2 x Toyota front balljoints
2 x rear balljoints
Twosrus Rear tied rods

still to buy:
Front Outer Tie Rod End
poly Steering Rack bushes

Image

Image

Also got a HKS Boost gauge (don't like the look of it, would prefer something a bit more jdm looking)

Image

also got parts for my roof overhaul:

18 x Screws 90168-40061
12 x Side Grommets/Clips 90189-04029

ordered 6 of these but only 1 arrived, all sold out - Middle Grommets/Clips 90189-04110

Next stage is to get all this fitted and send the car to the garage for engine fitment.

Not long now to go (I hope)

Cleaned the under side of the car and applied underseal to all 4 arches, the back and front. But not done the floor pan as I found some rust (2 very small holes about 1cm each) so going to remove all the underseal 1st and the get it fixed before any underseal is applied. Its not what I needed, but better to get done right 1st time.

Drying out:

And now undersealed:

next job is to make the car water tight.

My pile of parts:

Image

New Toyota rubber seals

Image

Part numbers if any one needs them:
Image

Image

So work started on getting the centre t-bar bar fixed, as some of the tabs were loose. So drilled some small holes and put some small nuts and bolts in them;

Image

grinded off the excess:

Image

roof all cleared and POR15 applied:
Image

Image

All 4 tabs are now secure:

Image

managed to get hold of the remaining 5 of the oval grommets. Big thanks to Peter from SBITS.

Image

Now fitted:

Image

Done the sides and the car is not letting any water in, well from the roof anyway. I am only getting water from the passenger side foot well. Which looks like a dash out job to fix...

thanks boondougal, still along way to go. Progress is slow as most of my time is taken up by my lovely son :)

Not happy with the rear quarter panels, as spotted something not quite right, so will be getting that sorted and then re-painted but that has to wait now as I want to get this car on the road and drive it.

Try removing the glove pocket & heater blower Imran

If it's same problem I had you'll be able to see where it's leaking :thumleft:

Mine was similar to your pic Imran :(

I sealed it with P38

Didn't fancy welding under there

P38, more commonly known as "bodge" which is exactly how that repair has been done. P38 is pourous..... so it isn't watertight.

It should have had the rust cut out and new metal welded in, seam sealed and primed/painted, not bodged up with external body filler.

Probably get abuse now, me and my "doing things properly" ways

Imran, do it once do it right mate :thumleft:

Mine doesn't leak now Imran :)

No doubt Gary will weld in new metal if you choose that route though :thumleft:

Considering all the good work you have already done on your car I would recommend having this welded

P38 is pourous, you haven't stopped it leaking at all, just now it's soaking up moisture and making the surrounding metal rot quicker

I have stopped it leaking :)

No pools of water in my footwell now :thumleft:

Yes, the rot is still there & will leak through again sooner or later (hopefully later)

That doesn't worry me

My car is just a bit of a track shed these days

Imran has already spent lots of dough on restoring his

So he needs to restore this to a high standard

spent more time on the car this week, and more time spend under the car. Which I do not like doing but its got to be done.

So jobs done this week:

  • Car now fully under sealed
MK2 turbo arb fitted to rear
went to fit the new whiteline front arb but found more rust on the passenger side where the bolts go in to

All ready for the day under the car.

Image

took some of the old underseal off, only removed where the underseal looked poor or any signs of rust. so this is what the front looked like:

Image

Driver side:

Image

Image

Next was silver PRO-15:

Image

Image

Image

Then next was the underseal:

Image

Rust found where the mounting point is for the front arb.

Image

But the rear when one fine, this is the mk2 arb, a lot thicker than the standard, cost me about £30 all in, which is a bargain I think :thumleft: :

Next job is to get interior back in (well most of it), get the original alloys reconditioned. Then sent it to Peter for engine implant. Cant wait :D

Some work , Imram. Fantastic stuff.

Curious about the ramps. They give great access underneath the car. Do they jack up after you drive the car up onto them.

Thanks Tim,

regarding the ramps, they do give you plenty if space. On the pic they are not at there max height as they extend to about 18 inches. All you do is drive on and then adjust the height with a large socket or a spanner.

I have 2 sets (second set is slightly different) I will have one set for sale soon if your interested

They sit very low, so no chance of hitting the lower of the car which is what us MK1 owner need.

But your standard Halfords ramps will be sufficient for servicing and general maintenance.. I only got these so I can have more room to remove the underseal.
