Help and advice please.

Post by BALDYMONSTER »

So, having owned loads of fast cars and numerous super bikes I have my heart set on another MR2 turbo.

The two I had before I didn't mid too much as I hit into scoobys and then a monster evo but I seem to have a real passion for the mr2 turbo.

Now, my plan is to spend £100-£1500 on one and budget for another £3000 to get it sprayed and how it should be.

New running gear.

Brake upgrades.

Polyurethane bushes.

Huge wheels and tyres with arches rolled and stretched.

I want it to run around the 300 bhp mark reliably as possible.

Ideally a rev 3 with the lsd and revised rear geometry set up, or is this something I can source and fit to earlier models?

Can the later rear lights and one piece spoiler be fitted?

Is a rev 1 or 2 a feasible option to upgrade to spec with the the budget I have?

What's needed to ensure a safe, and reliable 300 odd bhp?

Personally I'm looking to run a compression test on the engine and have a reasonably solid body.

Is rhis all realistic or am I living in a dream world?

Chris.

Some of what your saying is dream world stuff. Why don't you spend 3k to get a rev 3 in the first place? And then spend the £1500 for mods.

Why fit huge stretched tyres on a mr2, it's a massive contradiction. If you like the VIP look maybe a Lexus LS would be more suitable.

If you want 300bhp odd, best to start with a rev 3

£4500 is revision 4-5 money. you'd pick up a fairly mint one running 300bhp already for that money.

As said it would be more economical to spend more money on a good example rather than buying a cheap car that needs a lot of work and parts replacing. £3K is not going to go far when you add up the cost of suspension, brakes, wheels & tyres, respray, etc.

MR2's are very sensitive to wheel size changes, large wheels and skinny tyres have a very negative effect on the handling and ride quality. Good quality 16" staggered wheels with decent rubber is what I'd go with.

A decatted Rev 3/4/5 Turbo running 1.2bar will be around the 300hp mark.

A Rev 3/4/5 Turbo is what you need.

As already stated, find a nice rev3 or higher, make sure its got good bodywork, paint and wheels you like (having to buy wheels could kill your budget).
Modifying a car to the sort of standard you want is doable on your budget if you buy a good car to begin with and do the labor your self . Respraying it is pie in the sky unless you know a very cheap painter. Having the car colour sanded could be an option (I did mine myself).

Good luck, spend wisely,

Just for the record I pretty much did your plan with my car (rev1 car/ rev2 engine).

£1200 for the car and about £4000 on parts.

£300 hks vpc (gets rid of the air flow meter like a rev3)
£250 mines ecu
£100 hks afc
£300 hks evc 5 ( I think, its the one before the colour one :eye: )
£150 1 to 1 aeromotive fpr
£500 cusco coilovers
£800 blitz wheels and tyres
£100 intercooler
£120 water/meth kit
£300 various jdm gauges
£300 ct20b (ported and polished by me + the manifold)
£50 apexi airfilter
£400 exhaust and downpipe
£800 bodykit (paint materials, god only knows, alot)
£125 aem wideband gauge for tuning

All labor done by me , if id had to pay I dread to think.

Missed so much out but it should give you an idea :thumleft:

Edit.. Ow yeah, brakes forgot about them ..

£700 Rev3 calipers + uprated discs and carbotech pads.

This is depressing me it certainly adds up .

Second one, very nice indeed.
